What an absolute joke of a Government Canada is working with right now. How do you not do a basic background check on someone before bringing them into the house of commons?
Users of @protonvpn, how would you rate their service - especially as a linux user? I've heard that their Linux app is lacking. I am looking to swap over from Mullvad considering that I already pay for @protonmail and @simplelogin already. Would you recommend it?
@Rush So, I just tried it on Linux, and the app is pretty garbage. Slow and not settings. I went your route and just downloaded a couple of wireguard config files and I'm running through my network settings in KDE. Kind of sucks there is no split-tunneling though. That is something I kind of need.
Reddit keeps digging its grave every day with a new twist, but as soon as a good candidate (replacement for Reddit) emerges on the horizon, users will flock on. Just pray that the replacement is not from Google :P LOL.
So, yeah, I'm still on #Windows. And I think I will stay. I unchecked any telemetry that I could. I use #Brave, with extensions. I use #Adguard#VPN I use #Signal with family. I do what I can for #privacy and #security
I must say that Windows as a desktop is full of little things that make life easier. I even like it more than MacOS. Linux is great, but I often felt that GNOME or any other desktop was holding with gaffer tape. No tomatoes please. 🍅😎
@LinuxClaudeLinux users breathing intensifies. If you’re gonna stay on Windows, there are many privacy tools that can help boost privacy on Windows. The problem is windows itself has a lot of telemetry and data collection and they make it very difficult to turn off.
I've been wanting to get a @system76 machine for almost 10 years now... TODAY IS FINALLY THE DAY I GET ONE🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳 Thelio will match up with my Launch Heavy nicely!!! Excited doesn't cover it!
I’m excited to see where this goes. I miss interacting on twitter (for almost 8 years before I quit in 2015). I’ve slowly reduced my social media usage in general, and really just spent time on reddit. After all the bullshit with reddit this week, I’m going to need something to fill the void. Not sure what's taken me so long to join, but hey second best time to plant a tree is now right?
@theonlymikeever I’m also considering ditching Reddit. I hope a bunch of subreddits go dark indefinitely. There is definitely a huge void left tho, I’ve been using Reddit for years.
I'm checking out Lemmy as a reddit alternative. It's a little less-refined than Mastodon, but has a lot of promise. Found a few communities I like, but definitely needs more. Gonna start some 😬
@mattiem@mlemapp the Mlem app is great, but lemme still has a long way to go. Definitely needs better moderation, and more users. I hope more people leave Reddit and join lemmy, or something better is created.
This is a great feature.
But it is also, as always, a game of cat and mouse.
Facebook already does it in such a way that ID and tracking parameters are encrypted and combined into one string, making them inseparable. I fear that more companies will follow this practice.
@mialikescoffee I love to see Apple promoting privacy, but apps will always find a way around it. I do have to say though, Apple has been making great strides in being a (mostly) privacy friendly ecosystem. But since everything is closed-source we just have to trust them 🤷♀️
@christianselig such a tragedy man. Apollo was my go-to Reddit client. It really sucks that Reddit is going down the tubes because of corporate greed. I hope the subreddits going dark make it permanent until Reddit either dies, or reverses their API changes.
I wish you all the best and thank you for your amazing contribution to all our lives! I will keep an eye on what you produce in the future!
@delroth@mullvadnet
You can still torrent with privacy, just torrents with a low amount of seeders may be slower since you don't have port-forwarding anymore.
I tried to run the new #zelda game via #yuzu and I only get 20-30FPS which is just terrible. I’m going to give this another few weeks to get some bugs ironed out. If not, I’ll just wait until later this year to play it on the #switch.
@teamtuck What hardware are you running on? There is a 60fps mod that you can use. I started playing it yesterday and it's running pretty smoothly. Minor stutters, but I think that's the game itself, not the emulation. Running on 5900x and 3080
Protecting our online privacy is more important than ever. End-to-end encryption ensures that our messages and data are secure from prying eyes. Let's demand it from all our communication tools!
@stux Out of control here in Canada too. Everyone everywhere is asking for a tip, and the reason why is because people do it. It's social blackmail. People feel cheap/bad if they don't tip.
I purchased a coffee and you handed it to me, how does that warrant a tip? I purchased a product not a service.
If anyone ever comments or is disappointed you didn't tip (and if they, do they suck), just tell them you can't afford to.
Ok so @element now sells encrypted messaging to cops. When your only paying customer opposes privacy for all, how can you develop a product and claim that it's built for people who want privacy for all??
Complete loss of credibility🤦♂️
@ndrw Also something to point out, they said that they are selling the messaging - not the messages. So they are selling the service, not the product. I think they definitely could have worded that a little better
Moving away from Gmail was actually way easier than I thought it’d be. I had been using it since 2008, and so I assumed it would take me ages to stop receiving emails there once I moved to @protonmail.
Luckily, not so. I went through @1password and changed the email address of each of my known accounts one at a time. After that, I waited a few weeks to see what else I received in my Gmail inbox and either changed those email addresses or unsubscribed from various newsletters. I’m now down to maybe two emails per month in the old inbox, and they’re never anything that I care about.
