@juliank @FlanFlinger I have a number of remasters. This one is probably the best from 2019:

The original music, but sounds like a fresh recording done using the latest technologies.

Version 1.9.15 of gives more detailed information when using the -ll option. For commands, it adds the rule that allows it. Without a command parameter, it lists rules affecting a given user. It also prints which file contains the given rule, making debugging easier.

1.9.8 and later allows you to intercept sub-commands:

Even with full root shell access through @sudoproject , you can prevent some commands from running.

Sometimes you have many log messages from an app, but none of them have the exact content you need. This is where the grouping-by() parser of syslog-ng can help.
https://www.syslog-ng.com/community/b/blog/posts/aggregating-messages-in-syslog-ng-using-grouping-by
It allows you to aggregate information from multiple log messages into a single message.

Why use a http()-based destination in syslog-ng? Because you gain extreme performance and an architecture that is easier to maintain.

@apgarcia Sending logs once a day is not implemented in syslog-ng, only real-time. Here is a blog describing how to send logs to OpenSearch: https://www.syslog-ng.com/community/b/blog/posts/opensearch-and-syslog-ng All you have to do is to add a filter, most likely something like: program("dhcpd")
Oh, and you might also want to add a disk buffer, so logs are stored temporarily even if OpenSearch is unavailable.

@jpmens For many years I bought cheap shoes. They lasted 5-6 months, and I needed separate shoes for Winter, hiking, Summer. Now I buy 3-4x more expensive shoes. However, they last for 2.5-3 years and they are the only pair of shoes I use. So, one pair of shoes replaces 7-8 others...

Splunk is one of the most popular destinations in syslog-ng. I wonder how this acquisition will influence this. Will it make Splunk even stronger, or other log tools get now a chance?
