Life is a preposterous horror.

Money speaks for money, the devil for his own
Who comes to speak for the skin and the bone?

The law locks up the man or woman
Who steals the goose off the common
But leaves the greater villain loose
Who steals the common from the goose.

I am liking the first episode of Fallout enough that I am tempted to play one of the games again. No, not those ones. A good one.

A protest leader can be held financially accountable for the actions of a rogue participant in Texas, Louisiana, or Mississippi, but a CEO and company cannot.

Got it.

Just wanted to make sure I understood.

Having a character lose al its health the second it loses morale is probably the worst, dirtiest, aggravating shitpiece of a thing that Darkest Dungeon II does. Like, I find that metldown mechanic just punishes in a stunning feedback loop.

PatrickoftheG,
@PatrickoftheG@mastodon.social avatar

@WanderingInDigitalWorlds In the old days of the first Darkest Dungeon, getting maxed stress twice was fatal but I felt like there were more things to do about it. In this one, dropping 90% of your health in a shot is just shitting directly into the open wound. It would be hard enough a la first game but this is taking the piss.

Been trying, just for my own edification, to see if I could tackle the Leviathan and that's three runs sunk so hard.

PatrickoftheG,
@PatrickoftheG@mastodon.social avatar

@WanderingInDigitalWorlds Having some of these mini bosses be stuck at the end of two separate fights is nuts too. Like, I didn't get into this because it was going to be easy, but shit, there's kicking a man when he's down and then blinding him too.

PatrickoftheG,
@PatrickoftheG@mastodon.social avatar

@WanderingInDigitalWorlds To this very day my friend I wonder strongly what it is in those tempting goblets, by those weird skeleton priests, that is so very appealing to all of my people.The second game doesn't really have a town-based overworld and kind of feels a little bit more like a roguelike RPG than a strategy game RPG like the first was. I think I may like the first game more. It's not like I may not having fun with the second one but it's harder, so much harder.

Friends don't let friends bomb embassies. Hegemonic superpowers whose politicians and shareholders make a fortune from selling you weapons? They do.

I really think the point of provoking Iran by bombing their embassy was to stop Americans from asking why Israel needs so many weapons to pulverize Gaza. Now Israel can say it's all to defend itself from Iran (and use them to pulverize Gaza as per the plan).

Gives Biden a giant pass on his election too. This was a gift from Netanyahu to him.

PatrickoftheG, to random
@PatrickoftheG@mastodon.social avatar

For those of you worried about this being the start of WWIII or something, I don't want to sound like I am pooh-poohing the seriousness of what's going on, but Israel already attacks Iran and Iranian assets like all the time.

Most recently an embassy.

The reprisal to the reprisal to the reprisal, ad infinitum, isn't different from the status quo as it has been for a long time.

Remember, my #Christian friends, that Americans having sex with intent of producing children kills more fertilized eggs than abortion. For every two children you bring into this world you kill at least one.

Your only ethical choice is to stop breeding. #Jesus loves you.

PatrickoftheG,
@PatrickoftheG@mastodon.social avatar

@JustinMac84 40 to 60 percent of all fertilized embryos get flushed out of the woman's body to their doom. If two children make it out of the mother's body alive, statistically there's a little brother or sister up there in God's Gigantic Embryonic Swarm from all that sanctioned and marital sex.

The divine plan is super exciting, isn't it?

“There's something different about 's Lachine Canal” - no more trash cans to encourage more ‘responsibility’ for water

@AnnaAnthro This sounds to me like garbage cans were overflowing on their own, and instead of increasing the volume of garbage cans or the rate at which they were emptied, some idiots somewhere decided to go with the worst possible option. If it works out well then it works out but I do not think this will work out.

Edit: Bonus points for the homeless encampments along the canal that now have nowhere to stow their trash.

@AnnaAnthro I wanted to like that movie so much, because I am a romantic at heart, but bleh.

They solve the agriculture crisis at home anyway making the whole plot story meh, which would be okay if they played their cars right, and the thought that anything could survive getting near to a black hole is stupid beyond belief.

@SirTapTap I don't know. Not American at all, but I live in a riding that has realistically not changed hands since its inception Federally. I certainly cannot vote for the Liberal Party after the party went back on all of its important promises and had to be dragged screaming on a few big issues, clearly against its will. They're still going to win this riding.

I certainly won't vote for either of the two nightmare more Conservative parties. But going through the effort to vote for

"Mock turtle soup is an English soup that was created in the mid-18th century as an imitation of green turtle soup. It often uses brains and organ meats such as calf's head to duplicate the texture and flavour of the original's turtle meat after the green turtles used to make the original dish were hunted nearly to extinction."

I was thinking about Catholics and Protestants getting together both to disrespect things like Santa Meurte.

It's like, yo, friends, if the peasants are chasing after the death personified because it seems to be more reliable at performing miracles for the downtrodden, maybe, just maybe, God and the Tiered Heavens could pick up the slack? Remember when Jesus sent the apostles out to heal people with Godly powers? Oh, and then some of them did miracles?

Good enough for 2k years ago but not now?

PatrickoftheG,
@PatrickoftheG@mastodon.social avatar

Patrick, maybe it's something evil pretending to be good to trick people away from the light?

  1. I don't exactly think any of this is real.
  2. Assuming for the sake of argument, then if the good guys are so neglectful, or so subtle you can't tell they're doing their bit, so that something can eat their lunch by doing a little bit of good, that's a bigger problem that the Heavens aren't doing their job than the evil things doing their job really well.

Tested some eclipse glasses. Didn't find an address printed on them. Made in China

Test 1: utterly black and opaque indoors. OK...
Test 2: utterly black and opaque outdoors, except perhaps for bright reflections of the sun off shiny surfaces. I was able to see a reflection off my car, but it was extremely faint. OK...
Test 3: brief glance at the sun. The sun was visible, and a dark brownish orange colour, not bright at all...OK....
Test 5: longer looks at the sun.
Test 6: Am I blind tomorrow?

PatrickoftheG,

@johnefrancis My lady went ahead and made this during lunch, and it's good enough. I don't think either of us were even planning to do this but meh, I guess if we don't it won't happen unless we travel somewhere.

For some reason, I'm not actually interested in the eclipse.

It's scary-cool when the light changes dramatically, but I don't need to be outside looking up for that. I can look at high-quality photos later if I want.

But contrast: that time they were demolishing a government building. That I got out of bed early for.

PatrickoftheG,
@PatrickoftheG@mastodon.social avatar

@Cassandra I feel you, Cassandra.

I feel the same way? It's going to be dark in the middle of the day for a real small amount of time and that's fun as a novelty I guess but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

I just, wish I cared more? I want to want to do these kinds of things. I want to want to be like Hell yeah travel. I want to want to something other than surround myself in my creature comforts and pass the time passing time.

But I don't.

PatrickoftheG,
@PatrickoftheG@mastodon.social avatar

@Cassandra I had a decent time with my better half in the end. I am glad she inspired me to do more than we were going to. Have to admit it moved me more than I was prepared to give any if it credit for. Just eerie enough to be special.

I remember something similar in elementary school, except some of the teachers had welding helmets. I guess it was a partial.

My parents loved to drive when I was growing up. They still do now, come to think of it. It was their favourite activity, just popping in the car and driving two or three hours in one direction, no destination in mind, and then turning back.

They drafted me every time. We couldn't have the light on in the car because it would disturb father to read so that was out most times at night. I didn't have a walkman or tape player. It was difficult to read. And of course there was radio on their terms.

PatrickoftheG,
@PatrickoftheG@mastodon.social avatar

@Cassandra I wonder if it's easier for the youth these days, what with everyone having the internet in a pocket. I think long drives and miserable shopping trips would have been a lot better had I something to distract myself with.
