“The” achievement. It was enabled by humanity’s shitty heuristics and still developing (it will never get to develop, I don’t think) ability for longer term thinking.

It wasn’t hard to do, but they sure kept at it.

If we can’t fix it, if the world continues on a slide to shit, if it’s all doomed to a stupid end then I have but one desire:

That when the echelons at the top tumble alongside the rest of civilization, they try at the end, right at the very 11th hour to recall their rabid masses because they need them to listen…

Only to hear back “Fake news” as the rabid mass of blind hatred they built tumbles down their would-be world too.

I have no idea how to best present all that you said at the right time and places to capture enough grassroots attention to actually take off, but man. That really does all read like the perfect "disruption (pardon the tech bro term) to Match’s model.

Bribery and conflict of interest regulations and laws tend to be suspiciously not applicable to a lot of law enforcement funding related situations…

Promethiel,

Nah. Notice what happened here, it will happen again. The word “purge” has been used as a euphemism for so long that it’s simple meaning isn’t the first thought anymore.

That programming ran on the moment you read the word, before you even though about the meaning of its inclusion in the context.

This is normal human behavior, and it is exploitable.

You will see Fascism (and the Media reporting throughout fascist times) get really funny with words. You will see fancy small syllable words for all kinds of innocent things, mean other things.

Always question language, it’s a tool unto itself.

A bit late now, but perhaps people–governments, regulators, leaders, the parties who had the freedom from the fields to sit about and draft corporate structures–should have thought about the interplay right in your statement which delivers us our current modern world.

I.e, the below points are in my sincere opinion, fundamentally mutually exclusive:

the corporation SHOULDN’T be considering such issues, they should only attempt to further their own goals

and

It’s the role of government to align corporate goals with reality, or with societal values.

The former empowers the more agile structure of a singular corporation to devote all it can regardless of morality to ensure it controls the latter–Government, regulations, public opinion,“ownership” of natural resources–such as to maximize it’s own goals.

The goal of any single corporation taken to absurdity is often touted as absurd because but is it really?

What mechanisms does a corporation have to not grow until all the world is simply ‘Megacorp Branded’ ruins whose asset holdings trend to infinite on the last running quarterly report spreadsheet within a planet devoid of both investors and consumers?

There are no brakes built into the most common corporate structures by short sighted design, and humans suck at exponentials.

It hasn’t even been fifteen human generations since the advent of the Industrial Revolution bringing the impetus for ever speeding greed.

If the rich were any less short sighted than the poor and money granted the wisdom they think it does, they would be pushing for corporate reform that doesn’t risk a period of “blink and both our profits and the world are gone”.

That selfish-altruism isn’t common sense even as they all clamor for anti-aging just shows cash doesn’t provide wisdom, only opportunity to get your head out of your ass and insulation from consequence until it’s too late otherwise.

You did not read the article, just the headline. If you had, you’d know what the fuck is being discussed and how it’s not ‘Women’s Rights’ whatever the idea of that term means to you that needs to be air quoted.

This is about the female experience in

general public are being slaughtered, families torn apart and executed, people assassinated in hospitals, bombings and pushing people off land… Kinda hard to fit that in.

The tens of thousands of pregnancies that are going on with no infrastructure. The conditions of the mothers and the babies that do survive those. The effects on lack of supplies on menstruating girls. Women issues, because they’re part of the innocents being genocided and a vagina and a penis work differently.

“Combing through the SEC forms again…”

It’s not that they have form letters ready.

They believe the information to craft the perfect form is hidden in plain sight for the special to use while the rest of us are bound by rules because we don’t “get” what they really mean.

The same way a child rewrites the meaning of words when going over rules for make believe or a fictional wizard craft spells. Except they believe it.

Y’all. Did you have your coffees this morning?

There’s already an organically evolved etymologically rich word for the “passing of closed thinking”, that harkens back to “leading in” or Inducing…

Indoctrination.

As a person of color with the physical and mental capacity to go through the “Bad case scenario” that I desperately would very much fucking rather not, I thank you for the kind reminder that this is really about “The Helpers” and the “The Takers”.

They say all that evil rhetoric to rile their base, but I don’t think they realize that in some, they are slowly increasing the fear that we’ll have to be the monsters they paint us out of a need for survival.

Promethiel,
@Promethiel@lemmy.world avatar

Classy letter agencies. Surprised they didn’t just Photoshop NSA on top of an FBI “no, fuck your inquiry” letter without any further changes.

They all need mandated Public Relations teams. Not the ghoulish capitalist idea that really means “Publicity Relations”, but actually meaningfully and transparent (within honest and good faith security consideration reasons*) departments whose mandate is to square up the operational needs with the citizen rights to information.

Yes, I know it would be more likely to trip over a genie’s lamp so I can ask for the Unicorn dragon I always wanted.

Promethiel,
@Promethiel@lemmy.world avatar

Thank you for sharing this insight! It’s frustrating to hear everyone everywhere speculate about how easily the active military would turn, not considering…well, everything you wrote.

Yeah, ex-military of course is part of the brainwashed; nowhere else in the civilian world (outside of mercenary work) is warfare conducting knowledge of direct use.

Add that our Government has not always done even the bare minimum for our vets, and you got a recipe for the radicalization of the “disenfranchised warriors” (quotation because I don’t consider oathbreakers worthy of any title).

They’re gonna fall and listen to the honeyed words of Fascism in a different, harder way than your average civilian. That’s a call to something they amongst the rest of their group are genuinely and tangibly valuable for–until they aren’t.

Please do note that I do see the rise of American fascism as a real threat. It’s just not going to manifest because state Guard orgs decide to disobey orders.

Same, and I do still worry for the death tolls. That “theirs” (the civilians, who can be said to not know better) would be orders of magnitude higher than any on the military’s side doesn’t mean I’d like to see deaths on either side.

Promethiel,
@Promethiel@lemmy.world avatar

You’re not an idiot, but you’re sure limiting the scope of your concerns. Many would die on both sides. But “Many” has a lot of room for nuance inside it.

Let’s take out the big arms and leave it at small arms and infantry assistance technology. The actual, newer than the mothballs police departments get gifted.

Do you actually figure that the remainder of the military which doesn’t turn traitor is gonna be outnumbered by the seceding traitors in this civil war scenario?

Did you also account for the metric fuckton of able bodied people who would enlist during an open war to stomp out Fascism at home in the open like that? The largest regressive ideology spewing for the entire history of the Union state?

The far right isn’t even remotely sized large enough to outsize the non-crazies in the military and those who would run to go join for the resources to defend their country.

It would absolutely lead to much blood shed on both sides. But the losses on New Texas? would at minimum be a whole ass order of magnitude higher. At minimum.

I really would rather not have to pick up arms, and I hope most would too.

But rest assured, the US military would shock and awe the fuck out of Texas to dissuade any in the other 49 from fucking around and finding out, if legit Civil War broke out at Texas’ provocation.

I’d wish for you to have to live through a warzone between two ideologies while your normal ass is just trying to make a living through it all, but with my luck you’re one of my dumbass neighbors literally or figuratively.

And that wouldn’t be fair to the rest of the innocents around you.

I’m shocked it hasn’t happened to me before, but for the first time online in 15 years I actually feel this sentiment; fuck you very much and all you stand for.

You seem very well spoken but clearly convicted in seeing the shining and just world you may have thought you were building towards go dark and twisted the way the History books noted should be history.

That’s a presumption on my part of course and I’ll never truly know, but it rings right.

But this is a topic where your enthusiasm for the recovery of a dream that never was is making you say some seriously ignorant takes, in the dehumanize others for my point sort of way.

There is a small cadre of lovely good old people who don’t realize the realities being lived in those they have spent their lives seeing as allies–or at least being non-antagonistic towards.

A terrifying thing to see people who were there or learned first hand from those who were living through the bloody acquisition of the rights of marginalized group after marginalized group.

And how even those rights that were bled for are being eroded, within the same lifetime.

If they still can recognize such a simple reality, that recognition comes with a price that is often decided as not worth paying for those people, for whatever reasons they tell themselves.

I fear you may have with all the best intentions, gelled there as one of those people.

But my God. I have never in my life of being of color and all of the hardships and obstacles that’s brought the thought:

“Hmmm, did my ancestors really get freedom? Was the Civil War worth it, for our country’s Unity? Wouldn’t it be better to still remain chattel while trying to think of how to solve this all amicably”.

The ignorance is so staggering I can’t manage to be offended.

Promethiel,
@Promethiel@lemmy.world avatar

I have read all of your comment reply. I don’t agree with all of it, but I have read it and I appreciate your time in writing it.

The extra nuance you took to further clarify your point so that your strongly emotive comparisons were not misconstrued as ignorance was a particularly welcome touch.

As to a retort of any kind; Within the framework of the world you describe, you are correct and I would almost be swayed.

I just can’t bring myself to believe it can still be true, that it isn’t simply the idealism of an age gone by.

If bad faith in kind breeds more bad faith and our own good faith is weaponized against the public good, then what?

If it is erosion, then I personally can only hope that the good intentions on the road to hell will also erode the structures from underneath evil as well as the good.

It is short sighted, but just what else am I supposed to see beyond the cliff we’re hurtling towards?

Promethiel,
@Promethiel@lemmy.world avatar

Thank you for taking the time and for your words once more. You’ve given much to think we the shakiness in hope can be chalked simply to less experiences; Armstrong was already 90 when I came into this world.

But I can conceptualize what you mean about his message; it resonated enough it’s been covered by other musicians I’ve listened to.

I still fear the bounds of faith in our shared humanity and the meaning of the social contract may be tested, but while I have the conviction I certainly do not wish for that.

I’ll take your words in and accept them as a truth for the world.

A world I’d rather live in even if I don’t see how to square the sins of the figurative fathers of the past with any actions I could do for the children of today, starting with my literal one.

Mayhap the hope of the past and faith in common humanity will mingle with youthful vision somewhere down the line and I’ll have done my part that way, even as I contemplate and rightly fear the alternatives.

There’s a thin line between anguished despair and nihilistic optimism.

A thin, intentional line.

It can be alluded to, highlighted, charted, and otherwise discussed ad-infinitum, but it’s damn near impossible to lead another to.

Only have one comment to read (and I’m sorry how much it cost) but it looks like you’re at peace indeed.

Kudos to you, but remember you can backslide in acceptance and working back out is okay too!

Even crazy new Dragons get the “Respect the #1 rule of Dragon Club; do nothing to threaten the viability of the existence of Dragons” speech, I reckon.

Now keep in mind we have to be reasonable people and not driving our people beyond reasonableness.

Ditch your suite, and go into executive exclusive consultancy.

Just paraphrase the quoted section for each individual thick skull, and maybe teach them that softening the skin around your eyes and giving the beleaguered high performers bringing feedback a knowing look doesn’t violate business needs.

Then you won’t have to worry about posts starting with “as an executive” going wrong.

Well, no not really, but I know a board that needs to internalize that sentiment.

There is no way out of that chain of suck unless/until we create true digital sentients who would gladly suffer babysitting a salty bag of mostly water that has a really bad case of time and task blindness.

Damn it. If you reached the same conclusion…No, I will not accept the “Human Condition”, fuck that.

This gamified task app will do the trick, surely.

Fidget toys. Legitimately, toys for fidgeting children. There are all kinds of designs available. That’s how I manage mine. My significant other (who also has ADHD) does the phone thing but none of the problem mitigation and it drives me nuts!

Shame on me for not adding to the discussion but the caffeine still ain’t hit. I just want to say for some reason that seeing a willingly obtuse clown be challenged to be even more so genuinely made me giggle for some reason. Thank you.

Why would a professional gambler, a “career” track with no need for managing anyone but one’s self, want to be hamstrung by the reality and nuance of management? You know (I presume) how exhausting that is.

No, a smart (or even passably well written) professional gambler could present their legitimate skill set for jobs that make use of it.

They also, aside from hard skills (corroborated by good record keeping), would presumably develop or possess at least above average soft skills in the areas of communication, assessing client needs, and negotiating.

They would be terrific lenders, corporate salesmen, insurance investigators, the list goes on and on.

EDIT: Meant to reply one level up, sorry.
