@daringfireball
The EU wants Apple hardware to be like cars. One can use any brand of gas and oil, the accelerator is in the same place on a Ford as on a BMW, sit in any given car for 2 minutes and you’ll figure it out.
They want the software to be like gas and oil—put it into any car.
Major League Baseball worked in collaboration with Nike over six years to redesign team’s uniforms that are debuting on opening day today.
The result? See-through pants, tiny player names and numbers and off-center team logos. Good job everyone!
Many of the players are rightfully unhappy and some teams have rebelled and are wearing last year’s uniforms as they take the field today. WaPo gift link - https://wapo.st/3TVZHsr
@gedeonm Once an avid fan, I gave up with the change to the DH in the NL. My choice was strengthened by the pitch clock, outlawing the shift, and other ridiculous changes.
This requirement to be eligible for Web Distribution in the EU seems whack. Essentially, you have to have had a somewhat successful app distributed on the App Store (or an alternative marketplace?) and have had an Apple Developer account for two years before being eligible for Web Distribution.
This sounds like Apple doesn't want to allow companies to launch their app via Web Distribution but rather transition from a store to Web Distribution.
Spent some time today redesigning TextCorrect, my app that uses OpenAI to correct texts and then highlights the differences between the original text and the corrected text. I think this design refresh makes the app way more coherent.
The macOS app has received to configure a global hotkey that brings the app to the foreground in order to quickly correct a text.
And lastly, both apps now have two Shortcuts actions: Correct Text and Diff Text 😀
Well this is fun! I finally got my Apple Vision Pro in Glasgow, but it turns out it's not actually my Apple Vision Pro.
It's in the right box, but it's a 256GB model, not a 512GB, and the serial number of the device doesn't match my order. I have to assume that the store in San Francisco mixed up devices when they were packing them. And somebody in SF got a free upgrade to a 512GB one.
I suspect they would say “just bring it back”, but that's kinda hard now that I'm 5,000 miles away. Fuck.
Launching apps via voice is often quicker than navigating to the app on the home view (especially because you can’t arrange apps on the home view). But:
@gruber
You may be trying too hard. Don’t draw out the P.
PCalc works for me. That being said other things do not, especially when using CarPlay. If normal Siri interaction returns in 18 I may view it as advanced AI.
The thing that I get the least about TikTok is the way it says “it’s been a while, say hello!” on conversations with people I spoke to less than 24 hours ago.
@scottjenson@samhenrigold
For many at Apple the privacy centrality is very real. The approach came before the ton of money. The ton of money was the result of the approach.
As for customers, enough wanted that approach, and bought into the privacy focused ecosystem, generating your ton of money.
@scottjenson
You may not have spent much time supporting older customers who blindly accept whatever their children and grandchildren put on their devices and tell them to use.
Apple rejected an update to Runestone because its App Store description mentions the app's price. This text has been included in the description for two years on iOS and for two releases on visionOS. I was inspired by Overcast, which also has a similar text, to add it to my app.
I strive to be transparent and upfront about the pricing of my app, and it has been fine for two years, but now Apple suddenly disapproves.
Nearly 16 years of PCalc hitting day one on the App Store:
iPhone - 10th July 2008
iPad - 3rd April 2010
Mac - 6 January 2011
Apple Watch - 24th April 2015
Apple TV - 30th October 2015
Apple Vision Pro - 2nd February 2024
Not the biggest fan of HRW these days but even they know Houthis are attacking civilian ships along with commercial vessels.
Biden can only do so much. But all of our NATO allies transport goods through the lanes. Using our military to stop them is not "expanding the conflict." It is stopping terrorists from killing innocent sailors and civilians and from disrupting the world economy.
50+ years ago I voted 3rd party (yes I’m that freaking old.) It changed nothing, never will, RCV will not change that on a wide scale. Never.
Choosing democracy vs some alternative is not a lesser evil, never will be. All the alternatives will simply insure the alternative (do not at me, it’s the truth.)
I assume you meant “start to feel free to vote for their candidates of choice instead of voting [for] the lesser evil.”
