Morning. Miss Cinnamon didn’t come home last night. Tom slept downstairs to listen out for her, but nothing. I’m very anxious.

RolloTreadway,
@RolloTreadway@beige.party avatar

@purplepadma I'll have my fingers crossed she reappears.

My mood has rallied now, but I haven’t been so up and down in one day for many weeks. It’s quite exhausting and scary but right this moment I feel peaceful. No need to cook tonight - we’re still quite full from lunch so we’re just going to have some cheese and crackers and fruit

RolloTreadway,

@purplepadma That is a very fine tea to have.

I've given the two dense round shrubs at the front a haircut. One's a juniper of some kind, the other... I can't remember. I did ask here once and someone gave me an answer, but I've forgotten it. Anyway, it's a shrub and it needed a haircut.

They're right at the front of the property, and have a tendency to grow over the public footpath, so I have to trim them to make sure people can still get past. Someone last year advised me to trim every April and August... but, like I said earlier, April was shit so it's May now.

By the way, in case anyone worries, no, there aren't nesting birds in there (too low to the ground, I suspect).

I don't know why I'm telling you all this. It's not very interesting.

RolloTreadway,
@RolloTreadway@beige.party avatar

@eclectech Honestly, I'd be fired if I was taking this approach as a barber - largely because I've not trimmed them upwards. I'm quite happy for them to get a little taller if they want to. But I doubt many humans would be happy if I insisted on only cutting the hairs that grow out horizontally.

Morning everyone. I think another day of gardening is in store today. There's just so much to do - plus, I'm behind on a bunch of things I would normally have done in April, because it was cold and wet and they didn't get done.

Earworm this morning, because of something I read when scrolling back my mastodon feed, is I Want To Be In The Mafia by BC Camplight.

@RickiTarr I'm not comfortable with how AI is posting under Ricki's account. This will leave Ricki without a job, and likely destitute and/or dead. Heartless capitalist bastards!

Every generation of kids wants to identify themselves in a new way, and yes, we've all been guilty of finding it funny or annoying, but the truth is we all did it. I'm happy for them that it's safer for them to really explore their identity, and sexuality in public, and not just little secret corners of the internet, or shadowy bars that people only whispered about. Maybe we are fine with words like Queer, Gay, or Ace, we fought for them to be fine, and maybe it feels strange that they would reject something so hard won. We should let them find their own identities though, it's what we wanted, right?! So, Cheers to all the new words and acronyms, I can never seem to keep up with, I hope each generation gets to be less scared to be themselves.

RolloTreadway,
@RolloTreadway@beige.party avatar

@stevegis_ssg @RickiTarr Honestly, I spent a large part of my adulthood feeling that way - particularly my 30s - and I'm still learning identifying stuff now.

Morning everyone. I'm tired and it's so so grey outside.

Feels like there's been stupidly little sunshine these whole past twelve months. Really quite fed up of it; I'm not saying I want blazing heat (which will be coming anyway sooner or later) but a bit of sunshine does a lot of good for my mental wellbeing.

RolloTreadway,
@RolloTreadway@beige.party avatar

@purplepadma Bah. Insufficient sleep is never helpful. I've been having too many stressful dreams lately, so my sleep has also been disappointing.

Sky had suddenly turned awful gloomy, so I've brought the washing back in.

Good news! It's close to dry now and can be finished inside!

Unfortunately, a bird shat on a sheet so after all that, it'll need to be washed again anyway. :ablobcatcry:

I really just want to go back to bed but Tom won’t let me. He wants me to put on some more summery clothes, apply sunscreen, and pot up some plants in the sunshine. My body and brain are not keen

RolloTreadway,
@RolloTreadway@beige.party avatar

@purplepadma If you can physically force yourself, I think he's right to at least give it a go. If nothing else, you can be glad that you've done it.

Wanted to have breakfast at a garden centre but mood too low to get up in time. We’ll still go and buy some bedding plants. Just feel utterly miserable and so very tired. Sorry for the constant moaning, I must be so boring to follow!

RolloTreadway,
@RolloTreadway@beige.party avatar

@purplepadma Not boring at all! We're all here to listen.

Hope you can find some nice plants at the garden centre. I love going to garden centres just to wallow in all the smells and colours.

Flicking idly through one of my sandwich books, I noticed that a recipe for a ploughman's (with homemade piccalilli) has a little note: for a healthier alternative, leave out the cheese.

I'm sorry but WHAT

For one thing, nobody wants a plain piccalilli sandwich, that's not what piccalilli is for.

But moreover, it literally is not a ploughman's without cheese! The term 'ploughman's lunch' was invented by the Milk Marketing Board in the 1950s as a way to encourage people to eat more cheese post-rationing.

How dare they!

(One might also question whether piccalilli rather than Branston-style pickle is appropriate but that's another question)

Morning everyone. Overslept, and the oversleeping period was a very unpleasant dream. Ugh. I don't feel any less tired either for that.

Listening on random to a big general playlist of soul and funk songs because I don't know what I might want to listen to more specifically. The song on right now as I write this is Time Is Tight by Booker T & the MGs, so you can enjoy that with me. https://youtu.be/50xx1_CbJTI

RolloTreadway,
@RolloTreadway@beige.party avatar

@TheBreadmonkey Colonel Cropper and Duck Dunn were part of the MGs when they made Time Is Tight, so it was very much their work when they played it in the Blues Brothers.

Maybe I should get my ukulele out this week. I haven’t played it in about 3 years, I’ve forgotten all that I once knew. I used to play and sing for at least an hour every day when we lived in London

Why is it pissing down?
It wasn't supposed to be pissing down
I walked out to the garden centre and hung washing out before I left, in full expectation of no pissing down.

I'm hiding in the covered area where they keep the acers and the more delicate shrubs.

I feel safer and less out of control after a visit from my friends. My bestie stroked my hair until I felt better and understood my state of mind. I am now in the bath with a conditioning mask on my hair as it was so tangled she couldn’t run her hands through it 😔

@RickiTarr@beige.party avatar

Awww this takes me back! What has been the most important in your life?

RolloTreadway,
@RolloTreadway@beige.party avatar

@RickiTarr Of those, on demand tv has definitely been the biggest change for me. I don't tend to watch tv live very often, so being able to watch everything at a time of my choosing is very helpful.

Streaming music is also helpful, but given that I also still buy music it's not quite as big a change, I suppose.

I still read paper books and watch dvds, though, so the others aren't such a big deal.
