@ramsey I will still double check if UUID is actually unique in my DB

@Codeberg I'm not sure that a decentralized knowledge base is a good idea. It should look more like Wikipedia — run by a nonprofit organization, on open source software, allowing exporting dumps

Fuck HDMI Forum. Connection standards should not be proprietary.

USB is not proprietary
8P8C/RJ45 whatever you call it is not proprietary

Nobody is paying any royalty for those. As long as copper is good and connection is solid, nobody gets into trouble.

Why the fuck should HDMI be so anal about this?

WerySkok,
@WerySkok@mastodon.ml avatar

@drq а мне вот только сейчас эта ситуация открыла глаза на проблемы с HDMI, до этого я и думал, что такое DisplayPort, и кому вообще он нужен?

It never fails to amaze me how widespread is, while it flies under the radar.

It's not only for projects, though its users do include Mozilla, Eclipse, Ubuntu, GNOME, Fedora, KDE, openSUSE, FSFE, W3C, et al!

There's massive adoption in the European public sector, where there's an appreciation of open source, open standards, and digital sovereignty – most notably in Germany.

@element put together a great landing page showcasing Matrix adoption in Germany: https://element.io/matrix-in-germany

@josh btw I recently opened @element landing page and it was mostly about business use. I'd like to see sections on personal use

This Docker file uses #!/usr/bin/env as shebang to run docker from Dockerfile itself https://gist.githubusercontent.com/adtac/595b5823ef73b329167b815757bbce9f/raw/217a6176b036bee29df0c882e6b7b9967b6803e7/Dockerfile clever solution but I don't think so it is safe.

gosh bluesky telling off someone who threw a tantrum because they saw a post with food photo without CW

is such a relief

Screenshot of Jane (@fightingpride93.bsky.social) posting Beef quesadillas with Patreon and photo attached. Kevin Petker (@kevinpetker.bsky.social) then replies: ‘These are AMAZING! With all peace and love, could I just ask you to CW: food your posts so people who'd like to can avoid seeing food images on their skyline if that's what they're trying to do here.’. Micornhaelcopia Bischoff (@mpbmke.bsky.social) replies: ‘No no no, leave this shit on Tumblr and Mastodon, we're not doing this over here.’. Kevin Petker replies: ‘What, we're not considering other's triggers and traumas? Please block me then.’.
Continuation of a conversation on Bluesky. Micornhaelcopia Bischoff replies: ‘No, condescending and infantilizing people is not "acting in kindness." If you think the world sucks and isn't full of beauty, wonder, and challenge, that it needs guardrails put up on absolutely everything because of how terrible it is, then you're in some kind of arrested development.’. Kevin Petker replies: ‘What part of FUCKING BLOCK ME and LEAVE ME THE FUCK ALONE YOU COWARD is too tough for you to understand, MB? Go play in traffic.’. bort (@crushbort.bsky.social) replies: ‘can you put a cw for self harm on this’.

One of the things I am really liking about Fastly, other than that it makes the instance incredibly fast from almost everywhere, is the observability. I was poking around and found this graph that shows the origin of traffic to the instance at a given point of time, with the size of the bubble representing how much traffic that pop is getting.

Note the two big circles. One over Germany, and one over Finland. Coincidentally, the location of Hetzner’s two main sites.

Much of that traffic is inter-instance communications. And the reason is that, I strongly suspect, much of the fediverse infrastructure exists in those two Hetzner datacenters.

NB: Hetzner is critical infrastructure for the fediverse.

    @doomsdayrs problem of federated search is somehow solved?

    WerySkok,
    @WerySkok@mastodon.ml avatar

    @doomsdayrs afaik it's tough to collect all the data from fediverse and then search through it. Of course it shouldn't be the problem on the local server but becomes one if there are many of them

    WerySkok,
    @WerySkok@mastodon.ml avatar

    @itsfoss to be fair, issues with drivers (fuck nvidia btw) may be a major problem in attempts of using Linux as a daily driver.

    Also fractional scaling support isn't really good in Linux's ecosystem rn.
