#NowPlaying - revisiting early santana for the first time in eons at the behest of a (drummer) pal who suggested trying to background carlos & focus on the next-level collectivity of this specific group of players. and, like, shit yeah! it's probably just stating the obvious to say that santana were an incredible band, but it made them feel fresh to me. @vinylrecords
@samvarma@Theblueone Nice! Have not heard one yet. Eager to hear your impressions. Was seeking a Fender tone and considered one but got an ACS1 instead after A/B-ing with an Iridium.
@samvarma@Theblueone The UAD Super Lead pedal is very tempting. I hope they do a JTM45 next! I love that tone and the only pedal I have that comes close is the ZVex Distortron (which I adore).
@SpaceAce@flockofnazguls Gnome must be configured to automatically mount CDs as virtual file systems. There must be a way to unmount the disc from the UI. If not, try doing so with the ‘gio’ command line tool.
I want to see absolutely no sensible and practical advice here. What programming language should I start vaguely and in a chill way teaching myself if I just want to experience something fun or elegant or interesting in and of itself, assuming I have no goal for using it to do anything really (outside of learning)
@BlackenedGreen@iraantlers Yeah! The Annihilation series is such a head trip. They impart that fleeting feeling when you realize that reality is just a thin glaze slathered on the surface of everything.
Went to see my first movie in a theater in 6 months, and I'm confident we did it safely. We waited until COVID had declined ~85% in our area. Then we bought tickets the 6th week Dune 2 was released for a noon Sunday showing. Outcome:
Only one other person in the 180-seat theater. I had my CO2 monitor, and it never went above a safe 500 ppm. (Outdoor air is just 400 ppm.) There's never a guarantee--everyone has to assess their risks and make decisions--but I loved the movie and am glad we went.
People learn nothing from the #COVID19 pandemic. It's a lovely 60° day in Milwaukee, so I spent the afternoon enjoying a couple of beers with my spouse. We visited bars that could have had their windows open, but didn't. Almost none had patio/outdoor tables set up. And the few that did have outdoor tables had nobody sitting outside (except us). Everyone was indoors, in terrible crowds, on a beautiful afternoon. Make it make sense.
