I'm sure there's a tendency to always view the past as better, but the social-media-ification of the Internet has really sucked a lot of the joy out of entertaining people. When it was peripheral to the broader Internet, you spent most of your time making stuff. Now you gotta learn 8 to 12 platforms that mostly want you to act like an employee of their algorithm.

Upside: Hell yeah! Fuck them oil companies!

Downside: So what is the viewer supposed to do about this? Most people who see this billboard will be in a gas-powered car. If they interpret this as a personal attack, the message backfires.

If you're gonna put out a message that's basically "be mad about this," you have to immediately follow it up with "and here's what you can do about it" or else you're just adding to the doom spiral.

New #crochet project underway! Normally I like to finish one item before I start another - trying to avoid ending up with half-done projects lurking in the corners... But in this case I decided to make an exception. 😇

I'm at the National Speleological Society convention this week and really wanted something straightforward to keep my hands busy so I don't fidget in the talks… and my sister just sent me some yarn of uncertain provenance… so I'm working on a simple feather-and-fan scarf for a friend of hers who just had a difficult delivery. I love how this pattern shows off the color gradient!
