Most Caturdays are fun, but this week's for us is not. We lost this week our beautiful sweet Diana, age 15. She had been in treatment for kidney disease for about a year. In a matter of a few days, everything accelerated and she went into a terrible decline (creatinine level 10.6). We knew it was time; at the vet we held her, kissed her, then let her go. People here will understand how much we miss her.

@bjkingape So sorry for the loss of your beautiful girl. I hope happy memories of your shared life together make the grieving process a wee bit easier for you over the coming weeks.

2nd hand industry: You've seen the yellow donation bins at gas stations. Well, countries like don't actually want your used clothes. What's most interesting about this story is the fleeting reference about the govt threatening sanctions against countries who ban imports of our used clothes. This begs the question of why??? What is so important about hoisting unwanted clothes onto 3rd world countries that we would punish them if they refuse?

Dr. Jose Nafafe (Univ of Bristol) will be in the US in Nov '23 talking at Princeton, BU, & MSU about Lourenço da Silva Mendonça, a 17thC Black African abolitionist who brought a lawsuit before the papal court to end slavery. Dr. Nafafe hopes to make new connections and bring his talk to additional locations. If you're able to help schedule something, I hope you'll reach out to him.

Question for that relates to either and/or death causes in 17thC : In researching history, I found that 5 men from a single Meeting died within a 2-month period between Nov 1683 and Jan 1684. The men lived in Anne Arundel and Talbot counties.

Do you know of any online sources that record early colonial historical weather phenomena or epidemics that may explain the multiple deaths? Thanks.

I created a free interactive quiz for to discover which Order a Mammal belongs to. If you'd like to beta test it and let me know if you find glitches, I'd appreciate it. I've stared at the screen for too long and am no longer seeing the branching questions objectively. The plugin limits me to a max of 25 categories, so I had to get creative. TIA for the feedback.

@ChimeraMag To clarify, are you saying that some question pages had a nav arrow in the bottom right corner and others just automatically went on to the next question? If so, can you tell me what kind of device you're on? I agree with you about the negative teeth question. Thanks for that feedback.

alessa_ed,
@alessa_ed@mstdn.social avatar

@ChimeraMag Hmmm. The master toggle is set for every question to advance solely after the arrow is clicked. That's how it appears on a laptop but I'll see if I can get my spouse to use her iPhone and see how it works for her. Thanks, again, for your time. I sincerely appreciate it.

@alessa_ed@mstdn.social avatar

@geekdad Thanks for the feedback. I checked the logic tree and NO on wings should automatically take you to "give birth to live young". Can I ask what type of device you're using?

alessa_ed,
@alessa_ed@mstdn.social avatar

@geekdad Ok, that's really odd because after teeth you should get a couple of random questions to filter out sloths and hedgehogs before you get to carnivores. At that point in the quiz, the questions do not loop back to bats. Are you using a phone or an iPad, by any chance?

alessa_ed,
@alessa_ed@mstdn.social avatar

@geekdad Any chance I can impose upon you and ask that you try, again? Curious if a minor tweak may have fixed the question flow issue.

alessa_ed,
@alessa_ed@mstdn.social avatar

@geekdad Not all marsupials have pouches, which is why you got the question that would have led you to the Order for Tasmanian devils before you could move on to questions that would eventually get you to rabbits and dogs and other animals. Other than that, it sounds like the quiz is working for you now, correct?

alessa_ed,
@alessa_ed@mstdn.social avatar

@justpeachy No prior knowledge is needed for this quiz - other than specific characteristics about the chosen animal, but there's a serious glitch on the backend. I've been working with the plugin developer, but they can't explain why the questions are routing incorrectly.

alessa_ed,
@alessa_ed@mstdn.social avatar

@justpeachy Any chance I could impose on you to beta test the quiz, again? It should be corrected for both land and water-based live-bearing snakes. Curious what you get for bear or sloth, though. https://handinhandhomeschool.com/teaching/science/mammal-quiz/

alessa_ed,
@alessa_ed@mstdn.social avatar

@justpeachy I really appreciate your time. Sloth worked for other people, so I'll need to check if it's a device specific problem.

alessa_ed,
@alessa_ed@mstdn.social avatar

@justpeachy The question flow gets to
Teeth grow continuously- N
Claws - Y
Leather-like body armor - N
Have teeth - Y
Hang mainly upside down in trees - Y
>> Sloth

My guess is you know it, but the back end is still not working correctly on phones. Again, thanks for your time.

alessa_ed,
@alessa_ed@mstdn.social avatar

@justpeachy And this is why I humbly beta test. I was focused on accurately id'ing sloths from anteaters (the only 2 animals in Order Pilosa) that I completely missed sloths are hypsodonts. FWIW, this project was created 15+ yrs ago by one of my kids and originally coded in html. I pulled it out as a quick way to learn how to use this quiz plugin. I have since invested 25+ hours updating the taxonomic Orders which have changed a lot. My aspie brain is like: You must finish! Thanks for helping

alessa_ed,
@alessa_ed@mstdn.social avatar

@justpeachy Well, if you're having fun and you have time, you can try pangolin - horse - and rabbit. TIA.

question: Is there an integration tool I can use w a site that offers a quiz w instant feedback for individual questions? Interact Quiz gives a narrative final response, but is limited by using a sum total of all responses. I'd like to customize the narrative based on individual question responses, as well as the sum total. Can Google Forms do this? A ? Something I can embed?

Boosting this for visibility & help with getting feedback is appreciated. TIA

The reason for the change in is concerning, but the change, itself, is long overdue. Teaching excerpts of , rather than the whole play, for cultutal and making room for more diverse texts is an improvement to English classes.
