File under #homeschool#Art I suppose
Been a while since she did some henna - last was in 2023 while in Japan*. Kid2 worked on Mom's hand this afternoon #Henna
Why are the dumbest people the most likely to #homeschool their kids? It's like, "Yeah, I dropped out of the 8th grade because I didn't understand any of the material, but I feel totally qualified to give my kids a quality #education at home! No teachers or book learnin' in this house!" And we wonder where MAGAts come from...
Stupid California 1 day Isolation policy change calls for all positive kids to no longer isolate for 5 days (the time where they are mist infectious whether symptomatic or not) and instead to both wear masks (highly unlikely and unenforceable) and to avoid contact with people at higher-risk for severe COVID-19 for 10 days (impossible). The only thing it is a Milestone of is the lack of logic allowed to proceed. https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CID/DCDC/Pages/COVID-19/COVID-19-Isolation-Guidance.aspx I really don't even know how to talk to these people anymore
@Tooden Seriously-- does this apply to all infectious diseases? Like, it doesn't matter if you are knowingly infectious you may infect others if you choose to? You may infect people who might literally DIE during the acute infection (you will have no way of knowing who they and their households are, they now have no access to safe education anymore), and long covid 1 in 4 of every infection, so lets all get it now? Forget School. Apparently they don't teach anything that matters. #homeschool
@ClimateJenny@tofugolem@_L1vY_ We've homeschooled now for 8 yrs (in the US) - but also this is why we've not really tried to connect with any #homeschool groups. When we looked for groups we just saw huge red flags - most have a religious basis
An hour spent swapping #fieldwork quarantine stories and reminiscing about the #CovidLockdowns + the terrors of trying to work + ensure kids are actually online schooling
Our Ukrainian colleague said nothing, but mentioned later that for most #Ukraine kids - it's been 4 years and counting of #homeSchool now.
What's the point of having a #covid task force of you're not going to listen to the Covid task force?! Physical health and mental health should never be pinned against each other. We can't enable schools in their inaction by placating. We need to speak out and act to keep our children safe. Until schools respond, it isnt safe in schools. If you're school is ignoring your kids health #homeschool#virtualschool#CovidIsntOver
I created a free #K12 interactive #science quiz for #students to discover which Order a Mammal belongs to. If you'd like to beta test it and let me know if you find glitches, I'd appreciate it. I've stared at the screen for too long and am no longer seeing the branching questions objectively. The plugin limits me to a max of 25 categories, so I had to get creative. TIA for the feedback. https://handinhandhomeschool.com/teaching/science/mammal-quiz/
Back to school time is around the corner ! It is an exciting period for some children and adults, but also a moment of fear and stressful anticipation for others. These great picture books help to prepare young readers for this great moment.
I love how this workbook is organized by topics. The pages are really fun with cute illustrations and simple text. The Cards are very cute as well, and so practical to take along with you. I left both workbook and cards in the #littlefreelibrary, but they already disappeared 🤭 They were definitely a success !
Earlier this year we bought a used camper to put on our seasonal lot in Vermont. This post talks about the camper, and how it stacks up with our other campers.
These #bigoted parents believe they have the right to dictate the curricula and policy of public #schools to prevent their children from being exposed to ideas they hold in contempt. If these parents need the power to determine exactly what is taught, on an a la carte basis, then they need to put their kids in a private school that better meets their bigoted needs, or #homeschool their kids (since they believe they know better than educators). This is all about #hate.
Things I've seen at this weekend's #homeschool conference:
A dad in a t-shirt that says "protect #trans kids."
A kid of about 15 in a t-shirt that says "if you know, you know" with striped letters in colors corresponding to various #queer#pride flags.
This #disability pride heart on a paper table cloth:
For those of you who follow people on #patreon, what kind of content is your favorite? I follow someone who discusses and provides teaching ideas for #secular#homeschool life, a #dog/animal sanctuary, a #horse sanctuary, and someone who is digitizing old #KFOG content.
Hi! I’m Megan (she/they). I’m a classical pianist turned stay-at-home parent with degrees in music, biology, and theology. I’m #episcopalian, and I’ve been doing secular #homeschool since the start of the pandemic.
When #Twitter made sense, I would tweet with #TCMParty a lot with the most well-intentioned, affectionate snark. I love movies, especially musicals.
I’m also a #bisexual who loves a good pun, and I’m a blue dot in #Texas, so send support toots.
Since my health issues are getting in the way of software project work, I have been supporting my son's literacy and math learning. I was asked to write a blog post on how parents can support their children's math learning at home. You can read it here if you are interested:
This is why I am so strongly opposed to the school choice movement and believe it is an existential danger to homeschool — in spite of pleasant sounding catchphrases like “fund students instead of systems” and “money follows the student,” all of which, like the "school choice" moniker, are used to lull parents into supporting big-government programs that will ultimately hurt every student.
