    I reckon Copilot+ PC is going to be a product that an entire class of professional just simply can't purchase or use for work. Thinking of , , etc.

    Surely the "features" will be able to be disabled, but can anyone reasonably trust that?

    @andrew @law I’ve had this debate before whether tracking software monitored by non-attorneys violates/waives attorney-client privilege and I can’t imagine taking the risk as an attorney.

    @andrew Amazingly a former boss told me I was crazy for raising this as an issue. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    One thing we don’t talk about a lot is how dangerous flying may become because of climate change. Or how flying might be limited to certain hours of the day in many parts of the world because of extreme heat (which is already happening in some locations).

    @skinnylatte I pretty much eat everything (except pork) and like a lot of different cuisines. Was thinking maybe trying to find some good seafood- but open to any suggestions.

    I am talking o a reporter about this in a couple hours: https://regina.ctvnews.ca/from-outer-space-sask-farmers-baffled-after-discovering-strange-wreckage-in-field-1.6880353

    This is about an hour away from my farm, so this'll be a fun conversation, and yet another great opportunity to tell a lot of people about what a huge problem we have with unregulated commercialization of orbit. (Also I just redid my slides for my public talk next week, this is going in!)

    alysondecker,
    @alysondecker@mstdn.social avatar

    @sundogplanets

    LOL - I would have never even thought of that.

    P.S. The Outer Space Treaty actually doesn’t really touch on this. The closest is the Liability Convention and it is very much have your country talk to the launching country.

    Interesting how “accepted the deal” and “proposed an entirely new deal” apparently means the same thing to news reporters.

    Yesterday morning, on the first day of , I gave my latest MCLE presentation "Discovering How to Get the Most Out of the Most Hated Part of Litigation: Discovery 101”. There were over 200 attendees and judging, at least by the chat, I managed to make a usually very boring topic kind of fun and interesting.

    I'm talking to a journalist in a bit about NASA's new "space sustainability strategy" and this one sentence from the abstract seems to sum it up:

    "Given the substantial upfront expenditures required to develop and deploy remediation capabilities and the potential delay in receiving benefits, these motivations do not appear to be sufficient to incentivize immediate action"

    I'm going to have to read this more carefully, but did NASA just say they don't care about orbit?!

    @sundogplanets @michael_w_busch There was a recentish statement from a large LEO satellite constellation re if we lose a satellite we have 1000s more. I really don’t think they believe in the Kessler syndrome or that it can’t be fixed by just launching tons of replacement satellites.

    Tried the colander on the rooftop trick to watch the partial eclipse in Los Angeles today. It’s pretty cool this works and I liked it more than the pinpoint trick.

    Last week we learned that part of a cargo pallet of depleted batteries that was jettisoned from the ISS in 2021 not only did not fully burn up on reentry, but also crashed through the roof and two stories of a private civilian’s home in Florida. I was able to attend part of an AWI webinar today re “Are We Effective Human Lie Detectors?” and the answer is no. Even so called experts (police officers, detectives, psychologists, lawyers, etc.) have only a 50/50 chance of correctly determining if someone is lying or not. And some people are better liars and appear more credible than nervous truth tellers. A good reminder why outside corroboration or contemporaneous documentation is so important in all investigations.

    As March comes to an end, I find myself writing my first Women’s History Month post. This year, for some reason, this whole month has felt completely performative.

    “Please clap! We just hired our second female dean in our 120+ years as a law school.”
    “Take a look at this picture of all the women behind the scenes who make this company run- oh- yeah- none of our executive team is female.”
    “We are committed to diversity at this conference. Here’s another manel!”
    “Buy something at our Women’s Day sale!!!"

    The first woman lawyer in the United States, Arabella Mansfield, had to sue for the right to practice law, opening the door for female practitioners in Iowa in 1869. In 1878, Clara Shortridge Foltz became the first woman lawyer in California. While I never had to sue or get a law passed to be able to simply practice my profession, women lawyers continue to face significant challenges in this still male dominated profession.

    alysondecker,
    @alysondecker@mstdn.social avatar

    Despite decades of 50/50 enrollment in law schools, you still don’t see 50/50 representation of women as partners in law firms or as members of the judiciary. And we consistently earn significantly less than our male counterparts.

    4/

    alysondecker,
    @alysondecker@mstdn.social avatar

    Women have been fighting for a very long time and we are tired. We need you to look around the room and think, hey, who isn’t in here with us, let me go open that door for you. We don’t want to clap because you hired someone you probably should have hired 5 years ago but didn’t. We don’t want a 15% sale on designer clothes, we want to make 15% more money.

    So as we head into April, please remember that we need you to be an ally all year long, not just one month a year.

    If you ever want to feel like a real slacker, go read the bio of any astronaut. They are incredibly talented, highly educated, super-people.

    I'm listening in to a talk by a current astronaut, and it somehow makes me feel really great that despite him basically having superpowers, he still had a hiccup with his Zoom presentation and had to change some settings mid-presentation.

    Conference season is almost upon us and I just got an email from CAHR 2024 asking if I wanted to be an exhibitor again. I’ve got some other things on deck this year and can’t make it, but in looking over the photo they sent showing last year’s packed Exhibition Hall I noticed that if you zoom in you can actually see the booth and me talking to an attendee! (Yes, I’m wearing a mask because I still mask up at large indoor events.) Kinda cool huh?

    As a small business owner it can be challenging to find the right marketing and sales approach, (even harder as an attorney since I can’t actually “solicit” clients), which got me wondering, what marketing attempts have you engaged in that you felt you flopped or floundered at?
