Happy Lunar New Year to those who celebrate 🥂. It's a Dragon year 🐉 !

Japan used to celebrate at this time too before switching to Jan 1, but there'll be celebrations in Chinese-focused areas like Yokohama.

It's not just a Chinese New Year either, it's celebrated by the Koreans (설날, Seollal) and Vietnamese (Tết Nguyên Đán) as well. Other cultures do celebrate something similar but possibly on a slightly different calendar.

Nov 21 is Eevee Day. Why? 11.21 -> 一一ニ一 -> いいふい -> iifui -> eevee.

Happy Eevee Day!

Speaking of concerts and flying... Yoasobi is doing an South East Asia tour and I'm tempted to fly out in January next year just to watch them. If I can get seats.. :blobfox0_0:

The Singapore (5000) and Kuala Lumpur (2500) locations seem really tiny. The Jakarta one looks like the only one with more than enough seats, but the traffic situation there was horrible the last time I visited.

Japanese and their punny 'x day'. 11.29 is Good Meat Day! :blobfoxnomburger:

11.29>いいにく> いい肉 > good meat. 9 in Japanese is sometimes shortened from kyuu to ku, similar to 1 from Ichi to i.

It's cat day (猫の日) in Japan now, because as usual it's a pun on 22/2 since 2 is pronounced ni, which kinda sounds like nya.

Here's a photo of my two girls sitting on their 'hungry chair'.

My smol kitty enjoys looking out the window at the canned wheatgrass 'pot'. She can literally spend hours just staring, and adjusting to look at it from different angles.

She'll sometimes whine until I let her eat some, then continue to stare once I put it back.

Due to the stormy weather, swarms of ants have migrated into my apartment. So ants have started crawling into unminded cat food, especially the dry food set on a timer overnight. :meowcrying:

I woke up to an angry mommy cat meoooow-ing at me for not-ant-infested food. Sigh.

Edit: I got one of those anti-ant trays that are advertised 'from Taiwan' (made in China), that are effective, but I need to buy more for their automatic feeders as well. Anyone know how they work?

Sigh. Many modern sub groups rush, and editors don't check. In the latest episode of Metallic Rouge

The dude says "おつかまり下さい". In Japan, you often hear this on the bus: ”急停車します。手摺におつかまり下さい” (Bus is stopping, please hold on to the handrails).

I mean, just look at the sequence of events: The flying ship is attacked, the dude says his line, and everyone quickly HOLDS ON TO SOMETHING. Obviously he didn't say "Capture them".

Edit:
It's the exact same thing in the CR subs, so these sub groups took the CR sub and did not notice this mistake!

I just checked the dub, and he says "We're moving in!", which kinda works in the context, because they crash land, but it's NOT what he said. :neocat_blush_hide:

I get that releasing a simuldub means the timing must be very tight, but maaaan, this is just painful.

Oh yeah, it's Miku day. As usual, it's a pun of 9th March as 39.

3 > san or mi
9 > kyuu, sounds like kyu

So it's both Thank You (San kyu) and Miku.

I've heard it called a lot of names.

What do you call negi in your region? :neocat_confused:

Just some context for the anime Train to the End of the World, the girls are taking the Seibu-Ikebukuro line https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seibu_Ikebukuro_Line from Agano (31) and are heading to Ikebukuro (1). It's 30 stops, and the express usually takes 1.5-2hrs normally.

They spent Episode 2 taking the train from Agano (31) to Higashi-Agano (30).

The effects of 7G made the gaps between stations longer. It also had mysterious effects on the Koma River, which the tracks run parallel to for a few stations, become some kind of lake instead.

anianimalsmoe, (edited )
@anianimalsmoe@sakurajima.moe avatar

So the map from the duck boat guy in episode 2 seems to correspond to the stations on the Seibu-Ikebukuro line:

  1. Agano: Bear
  2. Higashi-Agano: Mushroom
  3. Musashi-Yokote: Fox
  4. Koma: Octopus/Squid/Flower?
  5. Higashi-Hannō: Circle?
  6. Hannō: Ghost
  7. Motokaji: Buildings
  8. Bushi: Person praying?
  9. Irumashi: Stomach?
  10. Inariyama-kōen: Multiple people
  11. Musashi-Fujisawa: -
  12. Sayamagaoka: Pipe smoking
  13. Kotesashi: -
  14. Nishi-Tokorozawa: Fart jumping?
  15. Tokorozawa: Sushi
  16. Akitsu: -
  17. Kiyose: Zombie
  18. Higashi-Kurume: Fighting with kicks?
  19. Hibarigaoka: Depression
  20. Hōya: High-five
  21. Ōizumi-gakuen: Dog
  22. Shakujii-kōen: -
  23. Nerima-Takanodai: Singing robot
  24. Fujimidai: Kappa
  25. Nakamurabashi: -
  26. Nerima: Puke
  27. Sakuradai: Footprint
  28. Ekoda: Tsuchinoko (mythical snake thing)
  29. Higashi-Nagasaki: -
  30. Shiinamachi: Orange?
  31. Ikebukuro: Food?

Hungry cats are effective alarm clocks. :meow_hungry_anim:

To save my sanity, I bought a timer cat feeder to not have a daily good morning kiss at 4-5am.

This anime situation is unrealistic unless you want to be woken at ungodly hours of the morning.

This is one of the reasons why some seiyuu have people that vet their posts before they're uploaded to the internet. STALKERS.

Preventing personally identifiable information from leaking and adding buffer time between IRL location and post time location is a necessary skill for famous people who don't want to be followed.

Oh, so like shitty AI translated anime on Crunchyroll, but for manga. 19 million dollars series A investment to flood the market with mistranslations?!

They claim that a translator is going to do a double check, but at that speed that they promise, very sus.

This AI boom is getting annoying

I've wondered this for a while...is there an explainer of the Hatsune Miku phenomenon? She came out when I was most removed from weeb culture, and I feel like when I did return to weeb stuff, she was gigantic, had a ton of obsessed fans, etc

like...what happened? I don't mean that in a skeptical way, just an ignorant one. why are people so obsessed? I want a people's history of hatsune miku lol

any miku fans care to explain??

Oh, one particular important point is the timeline of tech. Literally in the first few years:

  • 2005 Youtube is born
  • 2006 NicoNicoDouga is born
  • 2007 Miku is born with VOCALOID 2, synthesized voices are now much easier to make
  • 2007 Tumblr is born
  • 2008 MikuMikuDance is born, allowing users to make Miku animations easily
  • 2009 Bilibili is born
  • 2009 Miku performs at Animelo, the biggest anime concert in Japan, and Anime Festival Asia Singapore, her first overseas concert, many other concerts follow

She was literally born into video sharing, fanart, and meme culture.
