So over the past year I have been using #vscode for my #rstats and #python work. my workplace is trying to move to a unified IDE, and vscode allows remote access and WSL integration for free. However, so far it fails to spark joy in me like #RStudio (despite lack of #vim mode) and #PyCharm do. Everything feels clunky, and subpar. The "intelligent" and linting things are also quite broken in R... Has there been extensions that fundamentally change the vscode experience that I should be trying?
@jimgar yeah in more than one occasion they are fighting to change my code... definitely had the languageserver but haven't tried out radian terminal, will check it out!
So much :chefkiss: in this lol. Also honest conclusion:
"Parachute use did not reduce death or major traumatic injury when jumping from aircraft in the first randomized evaluation of this intervention. However, the trial was only able to enroll participants on small stationary aircraft on the ground, suggesting cautious extrapolation to high altitude jumps."
We stumbled upon this Chinese Muslim mee tarik stall inside The Intermark food court, food is good & affordable so give it a try if you’re around Ampang Park area.
📍 Ma Yi Lan Ramen
(we were originally headed for another mee tarik restaurant that I used to frequent nearby but it closed for Raya) #MakanApaToday
@rakyat I guess it does help to differentiate itself with the regular ramen which is usually not halal... but still I thought it was a fun name when I saw it in Pudu lol
@rakyat yeah I have not tried that place but my family was telling me how crowded and good business they get. Most of them don't eat beef so never get to try it out. But yeah, I get that feeling too when I visited my parents they are just not adventurous about food :/
The MCMC sampling is simultaneously finished and unfinished before you wake your computer monitor and look at the progress bar. It's the Schrodinger's MCMC.
I am more than a little surprised to see that Infosec.exchange is the 7th largest mastodon instance, from the perspective of active accounts: https://fedidb.org/software/mastodon
@ajn142@jerry mastodon-like social network also based on activity pub. Supposedly it has better looking interface, emoji reactions, and other features. Initially known as calckey then rebranded to fire fish. Ice shrimp is a fork of fire fish (that if I not wrong didn’t drive Jerry crazy in maintaining the server)
While Mastodon users being wary of federation with Threads is understandable, the phenomenon of Threads users loudly proclaiming “we don’t want to federate with those sanctimonious nerds on Mastodon” is… pretty weird. I guess “we are not Mastodon users” is part of their tribal identity.
My #Lenovo Thinkpad just got a firmware update to address a CVE in "jerryscript" - a javascript engine that appears to be oriented towards raspberry Pi's and hasn't had a release in nearly 3 years.
I'm afraid to ask, but why is there #Javascript in my laptop's BIOS firmware?
@gairdeachas Happy birthday! I don't grow up in the US but had my birthday around election day too, and had my first election-day baby trauma on my first year in the US in 2016 😥
The good news is, since then my new employer expedited the hiring process and I'm now officially working for them. Thanks to the new boss the disruption was only for a few weeks.
It's been a roller coaster ride. It seems like all things are good now and I should be elated. And for a period I did feel relieved.
But as I continue my transition out of my old job, I found out that I'm still coping with the trauma. As I was done with the presentation and conference from old job, whatever chemical that helps with coping just dissipated. And the brain instantly plunges into a pretty bad landscape. Sometimes our brain does give out the illusion that we are OK but in fact not.
Immigration is not fun. Most people don't get to experience that but yeah, trust me it really is not fun. I thought I have pretty good luck with most of it and then one bad luck and you get traumatised for... a long while.
Transitioning out and in from one job to another takes lots of time and emotional resources. An abrupt change almost makes this more costly. So I 10/10 don't recommend that.
They say you must use university affiliated email as your corresponding email when you publish you paper, otherwise your paper looks fake and illegitimate.
And when you publish your paper with university email, you get spammed left right center by scammy or totally irrelevant journals and conference you get sick of checking work emails 💀
@liampomfret From my understanding, retooting doesn't make that toot yours. It does become searchable to you, because search by default also look at toots that you interacted with. But that toot would not be visible (in search) to other people who never interacted with it.
