With wastewater still showing high prevalence in my area, I went to the #CVS website to confirm the process for getting a #PCR test just in case. I was shocked to find CVS only offers rapid tests now?!?
It looks like #Walgreens stills offers PCR tests. No idea if insurance covers it, but the list price is $128.99!!!
The CDC dares say "we have the tools"?!? 😠
So, where do you go for a PCR now? Will a PCP do it if you just ask for it? Thanks.
Last month, the #Walgreens delivery-driver accident unloaded my migraine injectable at the Walgreens a further 2mi away from our house. This was two days after I was due for my shot, so, didn't want to wait for the two stores to transfer it to the correct store (only an extra 2mi drive and was already in pain, so…).
Apparently, having picked it up at the wrong location (to avoid further wait), caused Walgreens to change the store-location associated with (just) my migraine medication. So, this month, when the "do you want to refill" SMS came in and I replied "yes", they ordered it directly to the wrong store.
Today, wife stops by our normal Walgreens to pick it up because we'd received the "your medication is ready for pickup" notification. Gets told, "not here". I check the notification email that had come in a bit less than three hours earlier and notice that the wrong address is on it. So, she calls the number for that store, and they tell her "we need a half hour to get it ready for you".
If you enjoyed "glitches while the govt offloaded vaccines onto private companies", wait till we get its sequel, "Glitches are expected in the first few days and weeks of the transition as pharmacies bring new insurance data online in order to process Paxlovid prescriptions"
@inquiline I couldn't even get a $128 PCR test paid for at #walgreens after my insurance said "no problem" in the phone. Walgreens: corporate requires cash based on your appointment answers and all walk-ins must be paid in cash."
PSA: apparently pharmacists for CVS and Walgreens are going on strike starting November 1st--that's next Wednesday.
If you can, go get your prescriptions and refills ASAP--and if you have any elderly or chronically ill people in your life you care about, check with them and see if you can help them get their stuff in order.
PSA: reminder that many pharmacists will be walking out next week, in an organized labor action to call attention to exploitative labor conditions by major retailers (#Walgreens and #CVS).
This little newsbit on PBS lacks nuance--it's all about what the businesses need and want, and zero about public welfare.
If you have a prescription coming due, I hope you can get it refilled before then.
Jaclyn Peiser: #Walgreens#pharmacy staff walk out, citing unsafe working conditions: Employees say an increased workload with less staff has made it impossible to do their jobs responsibly
Sooooo we were supposed to getto our #Covid#boosters last week. Early the day before we got texts that our appointments were canceled.
I called #Walgreens and the pharmacist said they ran out and were expecting ‘sometime’ tomorrow.
Yesterday we were picking up scrips and casually mentioned the cancellation. The pharmacist goes, “Oh, that was probably someone from Corporate. We’re about 5 days behind in our prescriptions so they just went in and cancelled a bunch.”
WTAF. Not only are the corporations squeezing every little bit of profit by overworking employees & overcharging customers but they willfully make handling medical issues difficult by placing as many hurdles as they can.
So this is kinda wild...I had a #covid#booster appt today at #Walgreens and waited in line about 30 minutes. They called me to the register and asked me what my insurance was. I told them, and they said that they aren't contracted with my insurance. I was disappointed because I didn't know that beforehand (my fault), but what blew my mind is that they refused to let me pay cash. A woman near me offered to pay with her card, and they said nope. There's no way to self-pay, which seems dumb 🤷🏻♀️
Turns out all the stories about a rise in #retail theft were #misinformation intentionally sowed by a retail #lobbying firm whose own data showed it wasn’t true + retail CEOs.
“I heard a #Walgreens executive walk back the company’s claims that shoplifting had gotten out of hand..Walgreens tried to use shoplifting as the reason behind their decision to close 5 stores in San Francisco in 2021..we know that these stores were planned closures" https://www.marketplace.org/2023/09/11/is-retail-theft-really-rising/
Went to get a Covid booster yesterday at Walgreens after my wife made us 5:30 pm and 5:45 appointments for a shot. Showed up on time, only to be told they didn't have me in their system.
30 minutes later, it dawned on them that maybe I'd never filled a prescription through their system before. Turns out, even though my wife had filled out all the right forms, they had a pile more forms for me and proceeded to ask me a bunch of personal health info in front of a long line.
15 minutes later, and 45 min after my "appointment" they were still registering me in Walgreen's system. I left because we also had a dinner reservation a few minutes after that.
Hard to believe they're only just figuring this out. Nobody is going to bother at Walgreens if it's this hard.
Walgreens expects to close 150 locations in the United States and 300 locations in the United Kingdom, Walgreens Boots Alliance CFO James Kehoe said in the company’s earnings call this week.

The chain operates almost 9,000 stores in the United States and expects to close the 150 US locations by the end of its next fiscal year, Aug 31, 2024, a spokesperson said.
