Finally after many years of searching I found my favorite little peppermint candy. This is quite similar to the kind often at the hostess desk for a mint and a toothpick to go after the meal. Or at a doctor’s office or any small shop. The best thing is that it is a soft puff of peppermint flavor and not a hard candy. Red Bird has made it since 1890! Big Lots buy. 4 grins at home.

Today, ta-da! Everyone was looking forward to this day for my son Drew- so important he have a success going into the pool for the first time this year. He surprised us all and did more physical activity at one time than ever, since October 7 when he was hospitalized with serious seizures. That day he became unable to use his walker anymore. He’s been weak and weaker. He barely can help himself lift up to stand and can’t hold his weight standing. Yet, look at him go in the water today!

@billyjoebowers aha! This afternoon while driving home, we heard Head Like a Hole and neither my son or his caregiver ever heard it. So I cranked it way loud. I think it’s maybe 30+ years old now.

At least someone's Mom. On Mothers' Day 2024 I found gardens of sculptures and decorations filling 3 home lots in central Phoenix, AZ. Earlier I shared an iPhone shot of a side yard and this is one of the sculptures I was able to see inside the side yard. By Don Russell, an extraordinary Outsider Artist who doesn't sell his work. Truly a nice Mothers’ Day going for me since my youngest worked overnight till late enough I could go out with my cameras at 5:30 am. I enjoy driving around areas of Phoenix unknown to me and planning on finding subject matter that is a joy to see. Hit jackpot around 7 am in a seedy old neighborhood near old downtown. 3 homes with sculpture and outsider area that was terrific! Here’s a cellphone shot of one, so you can imagine my thrill when a renter let me in the side yard.

Under creative construction here. I got 20 bollards going and have to decide how to use them. Likely to make simple square bases to keep them from tipping when the dog comes by. These first solar lights were charged up and I had to get a photo of the shadow play. There are 4 heavy wall mount lanterns but I think too heavy to mount easily on stucco.

Hard to imagine the Stones on tour in 2024 and they play the stadium in Glendale AZ tonight just a mile or so from my home. Saw them 3 times, starting 1969. DECADES ago! Not one ounce of interest for me now but for a good 45 years they really were the world’s best rock ‘n roll band. In honor of their history, here is a favorite early song.

Palo Verde flowers on a bench - these trees on Phoenix are full of tiny yellow flowers. I was sitting on a light aqua-colored bench at the Banner hospital downtown as a tree was “snowing” flowers. Too bad I’m allergic to this pollen! It was a short break during a procedure my son is getting.

Last summer in Phoenix I was just sure the record-breaking heat wave killed off the many decades’ old rose bushes out front of my home. Despite my aggressive pruning and spray treatment for a fungicide for thrips, Voilá they are doing fine! Never saw 6 full blooms at once in a giant cluster. #Phoenix #Bloomscrolling #Roses #Red

In order to get a Sheriff bus of arrestees out, the cops had to leave their positions to escort it away. And now students have retaken the encampment area and are continuing the actions.

My English cucumber problem. Soooo I have about 20 of these, ripe/organic/wrapped. Need to know ideas on how to eat/cook/freeze. All I can think of are vague canapés and quiche. I also have a lot of bell peppers, onions, squash, green beans and grape tomatoes. Hmmmm.

Sooooo, is this mess going to turn into something edible? What I’ve been craving so much is hard to find in the US Southwest but I got the taste when I lived in Beaumont TX next to Lose-e-anna. Took Zatarain dry mix but sautéed sliced Andouille sausage with onions, celery and then added garlic and drained diced tomatoes with chilies. It smells amazing. Saved 3 cups white rice from last night for this. Photo is taken way early in simmering. I never tried to make it B4.

@BruceHarry Oh my it did turn out! You are right @davepolaschek using Zatarains as a base mix is terrific. So, I sliced 12 oz Andouille sausage and sautéed with diced onions and celery. Added 7 oz Rotel diced tomatoes with chilies and minced garlic to sauté. Lots of water to simmer, then add the dry mix. Cook 25 minutes and serve over extra white rice.

As served, red beans and rice with Andouille sausage slices served atop more white rice in bowl. Closeup.

The average caregiver in Arizona gets about $15.30/hr. There are NO benefits such as health insurance, paid vacation or days off, no holidays off with pay, no overtime, etc. if a client goes into a hospital for a few days or more, no pay. How many people can afford to take this kind of work? Which IS work and can be difficult or challenging work. It’s only getting worse as more people need care and the population ages. Train wreck in slow motion here.

You can never have too many flowers. Or the aroma of flowers that drifts out 25-40 feet away as these star jasmine vines do. I finally found my jasmine fertilizer so the pots just greedily soaked up very nutrient-rich water. We went over 100° today! I read that using this fertilizer will help prolong blooming. If scientists figured out commercially viable ways to capture scent for release later, I’d recommend the scent of jasmine. Really stays in my memory. #BloomScrolling #Jasmine #Phoenix
