I mainly share old photos of Houston and talk about Black & Southern history, books, and tech.

Sometimes I whine about work, my computer, the state of the world, and share bad photos I’ve taken.

@ayo Another vote for Fastmail here.

I began the switch Gmail last year and I couldn’t be happier.

The fact that their masked email feature directly integrates into 1Password is the icing on the cake. 👌🏾

I’m on the hunt for a typed-note app to catalog my historical research and blurbs

Hard Requirements:

  • support
  • tags
  • search
  • local storage option

NiceToHaves:

  • rich text formatting / markdown
  • image support
  • iOS app

So far, I’m hovering over Joplin and Simplenote. However, open to other suggestions. 🤗

So, I just finished this book.

I definitely learned a lot and ended up taking lots of notes.

Some parts of it of were tough to get through due to the author’s writing style, but ultimately I left it with a much better understanding of what’s going on.

Now, onto The Biography of Jerusalem 👍🏾

Dealy-Adey Co were purveyors of stationery and various office supplies in addition to printing and binding reading materials.

At one point, they were the number one place to go for anything printing or stationery-related.

Hi. Today is my birthday.

I’ve been here a while now but I’m still figuring things out. I’m not great at lifing but I keep trying. Growing every day. And I’ll never figure it all out, but that’s okay; it’s a journey not a destination.

I’m grateful for the amazing things life has gifted to me. Of which there is an abdunace. I forget because of the suffering. But taking a moment to pause and remember the good stuff helps a lot.

Have a good day, y’all.

[What a Teacher's Letters Reveal About Robert Smalls, Who Stole a Confederate Ship to Secure His Freedom From Slavery]

“When Harriet M. Buss, a white, educated Baptist woman from Massachusetts, moved to South Carolina to accept a position as a teacher in March 1863, she likely didn’t anticipate that one of her students, Robert Smalls, would go on to become a member of the United States House of Representatives.”

“In the fall of 1895, Madam Priscilla Henry lay on her deathbed in one of the lavish bordellos that she’d used to entertain patrons for decades.

The premier lady of sex work in Victorian St. Louis had built an empire estimated to be worth at least $100,000—the equivalent of about $3.7 million today—but she seemed remorseful over her dealings and fate as her health waned.”

📍 Public School Stadium

The "Public School Stadium" will not sound very familiar to any Houstonian born after 1958.

This stadium, located on the University of Houston campus, was renamed to "Jeppesen Stadium" in 1958.

It was renamed once more to "Robertson Stadium" and remained so until its demolition in 2012.

In 2013, the TDECU Stadium was built in its place.

@ayo my boyfriend always microwaves his. To him, it isn’t hot enough when it comes out of the Keurig, so he always sticks in the microwave for a minute or so. 🥴

It’s so weird to me, but apparently coffee can be microwaved because he does it every day 😅
