Once more, for those in the back:

Being "non-racist" is not a state of being for which you get a gold star. It's a process which requires continual self-examination. You can't just start with the assumption that you are "not racist" - you have to put in your work, and keep doing so.

And don't do it because you crave "recognition" for your efforts, but because it's a basic part of being a decent human being.

filobus,
@filobus@sociale.network avatar

@juergen_hubert yes, and no
Not being racist is something as simple as looking at other's eyes and seeing another human, no philtres, only recognition and communication (it could be even a bad one)
And it is something like when a flood hits you, all you have and are, and you meet your neighbour and you embrace each other crying, whoever you are
And it is also thinking about you and the others, who you are and your history, and find all the things have influencend you and slowly you put them down

Excellent piece on the British roots of the conflict in and the impact of colonial “divide and rule” strategies here and elsewhere:

“In British India, they pushed the Hindu-Muslim divide, sometimes favoring one population, sometimes the other. In Cyprus, they pitted the Greeks against the Turks. In Sri Lanka, it was the Tamils against the Sinhalese. In Ireland, it was the Catholics against the Protestants. The list goes on.“

filobus,
@filobus@sociale.network avatar

@pvonhellermannn I'm sure I don't understand fully what's happening, but I have the impression that Israel was founded (also) on the idea of conflict. People came from a war and holocaust, wanted to fight against everyone to get what they wanted (a land for them). And maybe now they cannot exist without this idea. Would an angel come on earth with peace, would they catch that possibility?
(Obviously I may be totally wrong)

TheEuropeanNetwork, to Europe

Israel’s order to more than 1 million Palestinians living in Gaza to immediately evacuate their homes, condemned by the UN as foreshadowing a humanitarian tragedy, will turn Europeans against the war, the Palestinian Authority’s top diplomat in Brussels predicts.

“It’s going to change the minds of several EU leaders and the minds of all the people in all the European member states,” said Abdalrahim Alfarra, head of the Palestinian Mission to the EU".

filobus,
@filobus@sociale.network avatar

@malwaretech what you wrote for me is funny.
Philosophically for me it makes no sense "claiming a land", the land is for no one to claim, it is something we really don't own (some day we'll die and we'll become the land, and when we die we don't carry anything with us)
Historically it also make no sense: no one really own a land, if this was so most people from America should give back the land. And in Europe too, we should split ourselves in different people from which we came.

Ti accorgi che gli Asili/Scuole dell'infanzia sono iniziati quando:

  1. passi la sera a pulire il vomito di Gemello 1 dalla portiera dell'auto.

    @malwaretech I have my not expert opinion, but it's not so important. What I want to point out is that I don't understand any need of finding a justification (or of the rejection of justification).
    And also of any "good guys" or "bad guys". We are not god, let this work to god if you worship any. We need to understand why this happens, and what should be done to stop this apparently endless war. For the people, any, not governments or other nations.
