Anyone wondering what wax worms look like (as they start working into an empty hive), here's a good photo. Your easiest fix -- especially in a small hive--is to freeze the frames, which kills all the eggs and larvae, and hope bees move in quickly! A large, healthy hive will keep out wax moths. #beekeeping#tips#beekeepingtips#waxmoths https://m.ai6yr.org/@natesiggard/112294809202487916
@MLE_online When we built our house, the Toilets felt like a much more consequential decision than I thought they would because I've always just had toilets and now we had to choose and commit to one.
@MLE_online I've never used to think so much about fluid dynamics and bowl shape before. And then the question of upgrade options if I want to do bidets later? Just a cascade of questions and choices.
@MLE_online I like Bidet Seats, but when I was in Spain several years ago, I found the separate Bidet to be intimidating, and didn't want to accommodate separate bidets into our floor plan, but being able to make that choice, especially for unusual features like that is basically the reason to build, though it's not really cost effective to build right now, since the Trades haven't recovered since 2008's crash and everyone has way more work available than they could possibly do.
@lauren If the media actually ran Trump speeches in full, it would be impossible to claim he was fully present. But it's so nonsensical, they trim it, making him seem more coherent than he is.
Remember that any one of these billionaires could solve San Francisco’s homelessness crisis overnight, yet instead they spend their money vilifying the poor and attacking those of us who are trying to house people
@nickdrawthing There is plenty of pee/poop, since they hold it until it's warm enough to do "cleansing flights".
In future, I'm probably going to switch to better insulation, which will help cut down on the number of bees that die, since much of this is probably bees on the outer edge of the "cliuster" they form to keep warm in winter. I've got some insulation, but probably no more than R4 or R5, and I can do better.
They still had plenty of food though, so they've been overwrintering well.
Poor Things is like a much, much more accessible The Lobster. It is almost as good as Everything Everywhere All At Once which is an unbelievable compliment. See it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlbR5N6veqw
@codinghorror Everytime I see the promotional photos, I think that the lead actor is Paul F Tompkins and not Mark Ruffalo, and I get disappointed, because Paul should work more.
@rebeccawatson Have you ever read David Brin's The Transparent Society? It lays out an interesting set of arguments about the privacy gap between the Rich and the Rest Of Us.
While I have my doubts about some of the thought experiment regarding radical transparency, it is a really interesting read.
@mattblaze As someone who just spent way too much money building a modern take on a mid-20th century home, those people don't really understand how hard good design really is.
@mattblaze Here are a few angles of our Great Room and a drone shot of the house from the street side. We have done some additional work since we moved in in August (there are stone walls around the deck pilings now, solar panels, etc), but I only have CR2 files of those and am not on a laptop I can easily convert them at the moment.
@mattblaze Since we're in New England, we used the "Deck House" as an inspiration (mid-century style from Acorn-Deck company around here). Our architect happens to live in an actual Deck House, and he absolutely nailed the brief. He's submitted for a few architecture awards, and if he wins, I'm absolutely casting a plaque and attaching it to the house.
My thought on Neuralink implanting tech in human heads for the first time:
Brain implants are one of those technologies where the MTBF for the implant MUST exceed the MTBF of the implantee. And there must be lifetime after-sales support, Or else the execs who made the decision to pull support should go to prison for the rest of their lives.
