#BlackMastodon#BlackTwitter#Abolition#Communities#OurFutures I was watching our partial eclipse yesterday with my daughter in a local area. There's a row of food shops, cleaners, credit union and nail salons where we were sitting. The employees were getting permission to come outside and see the eclipse but of course none of them had any eye protection. We signaled for them to come over and share ours. In about 10 minutes we were surrounded by workers from four different ethnic groups. 1/5
#BlackMastodon#BlackTwitter#Abolition#Communities#OurFutures We were a group of Black American, Asian, Latino, and various Africans . It was a wonderful and heart warming experience. You may be asking yourself what this has to do with #abolition. But it was the beauty of the human community coming together to experience something phenomenal that made it relevant to #abolition. There is a new series on PBS that also is not about #abolition but has everything to do with it. 2/5
#BlackMastodon#BlackTwitter#Abolition#Communities#OurFutures The series is called: A Brief History of the Future. The host of the show presents the idea that we have moved into being a society that just plans for today without thought to the consequences our actions today will have on our future families. He sets off to talk to people around the world who are trying to envision the world they want for their great grandchildren and then talking steps TODAY to help build it. 3/5
@popcornreel Definitely have glasses. Ordered them early and outfitted the whole family! We have a NOAA division nearby and they always have a big eclipse watching in front of their building. Lots of fun being with science people at such an event.
@GottaLaff The best line in there is where the guy says "Kool-Aid." I have started calling the MAGA people Jim Jones 2.0. If anyone is old enough to get that reference, they'll appreciate the Kool-Aid remark.
@TurtleJoe@GottaLaff There are many cult leaders in the world, for example the one in Nigeria that last year convinced people to starve themselves to death,. For those of us in the US of a certain age Jim Jones was our introduction into what cult leaders were and the damage they could do. Feel free to compare him to whatever cult leader strikes your fancy. In the end they are all deadly.
@GreenFire Exactly. And this is a problem among the Black extreme left who celebrate when armed coups kick out Western aid. Here I'm not arguing that the west is good, but these groups fail to recognize or even consider the fact that the Russian Wagner group is supplying much of the military might behind these coups. And the Wagner soldiers routinely kill women and children in Africa.
You know that corrected bond #Trump has filed today? Well, Tish James’s team has now made a filing of their own, asking, under a NY law, for a justification of the surety. What does that mean? #legal
@Dr_Elizabeth97 Partially this and partially some don't care about the risks. They just want to be in his orbit. He chooses incompetence because these people are loyalists sycophants.
@RevPudDudley LOL...as a lawyer I am compelled to reject the assumption that this is thinking like a lawyer! That's his problem apparently, he never learned HOW to think like a lawyer. Must have been one of those many, many, many, law students that think the professional responsibility classes are a "waste" of their time.

This post is for the Black and Brown people who post on Mastodon. Other people can read it but this thread is to open a dialogue with our community specifically. I was traveling in Chicago for most of this week and I had an opportunity to talk to quite a few working class folks during my stay. When traveling I usually try and take the temperature on what is happening in Black communities locally so politics comes up often. 1/5
@wakingrufus Yes they should and my heart goes out to folks in TX, FL, LA and Mississippi trapped with hateful and reactionary leadership. For a couple of decades now the DNC abandoned dealing with local issues in favor of a small # of national ones and they have no long term plan. Its a foolish strategy because as you say people are right to be angry and failure to address their issues is super dangerous. But folks also don't understand govt so they don't know how to petition for redress.
