I keep hearing this number: 1200

Let’s call it for what it is: That’s actually the number of Palestinians that die EVERY WEEK during the current conflict.

And that’s not hyperbole, it’s cold, hard, math.

32000 dead =
5333 dead / month =
1333 dead / week

One thing stays constant over the ages: Rich people who think politics is bankrupt and they should run things instead.

The thing with politics is though, at it’s root the word means doing things (for the city) together. And the root of their frustration with politics and doing away with it is that they don’t want to do things together.

If I wanted to avoid escalation by militant Islam in the , I wouldn’t start by making a quarter million able-bodied men homeless & motherless with nothing to lose.

@Edelruth It is almost as if you were writing the recruitment pampflets yourself.

The parasitic relationships of ultra-right political movements across cultural borders are fascinating.

@thetechtutor How well did that go in Northern Ireland?

History seems to point to two answers:

In modern times terrorist organisations are almost never defeated by military actions, but by political solutions that offer the people a better alternative. The people know these are madmen, but the madman is the only one speaking for them so there’s no choice.

In old times brutal empires took hundreds of years to crush repeating rebellions and eradicated whole ethnic groups in the process.

In a groundbreaking study from 2017, Chatard et al found social comparison to be subliminal.

In the study women were shown images of thin women or heavy women at sub-conscious threshold viewing times of less than 20 milliseconds.

Even when they consciously didn’t register seeing them and weren’t able to make the comparison, the study found feeling good or bad about their bodies still consistently affected.

The important question is what the above means for of , especially young girls on :

It means we can’t educate ourselves away from this.

We can of course alleviate some of the problems that follow, and we should. Social media provides way too many supermodel-shapes to push those buttons teenagers still don’t know how to react to.

And it is important for educators also to try and not ”talk some sense into the kids”, but promote healthy reactions to the inevitable.

They missed the most important part: And neither of them should be believed because AGI is just another tech fantasy.

@parismarx There probably will be some kind of general intelligence of machines, but it will not be in any way related to human life, and might not be helpful to us.

Just let me see him pay for it? It’s telling what kind of circles rich people live in, how they see the world differently. How everything is possible.

Wake up call (not woke).

" Finnish PM warns of hybrid threats from ‘aggressive’ Russia

Helsinki has borne the brunt of Moscow’s malign activities, and now wants other countries to wake up to the threat. "

@ManyRoads As we say in Finland: Torille! (To the square! 🇫🇮) Every time our country is mentioned! 😂

Happy to say thay unlike US, even a very right-wing government like we have now, does not bow to Russia.

Russia’s direct propaganda on Finland has actually been eerily quiet since their last direct influencers were booed out in 2022 for supporting the Ukraine invasion.

Instead the threats, covert operations & confusing with several different versions of events gone up sharply.

First they came for the woke, but I did not care because I thought postmodernism was something that happened in the 1980’s.

Then they came for the peace protestors, but I did not care because all it was some outside agitators.

Then they came for…
