Gonna commission a study to measure the correlation between age and how much you like darker coffee with a few slices of plain buttered toast

@glassbottommeg@peoplemaking.games avatar

@gureito I was thinking more darker as in less or no milk/creamer, so you're still dead on the trend heh

Bonus points if you can guess the WIP.

@8bitacrylic mmmmm- Shantae?

Though part of me wants to say Rygar.

glassbottommeg,
@glassbottommeg@peoplemaking.games avatar

@8bitacrylic wait, which one though?

... surely not Rygar, right? That'd be a deep cut. EDIT: yeah definitely not Rygar, I got the name wrong anyways. Rygar has tight red pants, I was thinking of the uhhhh other weird one, where your guy blew fire. Can't for the life of me remember that one. But he had poofy red pants. So yeah, Shantae, woo!

@glassbottommeg@peoplemaking.games avatar

@8bitacrylic Rygar's a weird one. I feel like you had to be a particular kind of kid getting bargain bin NES games to stumble across it. At least Shantae's had a couple of recent revivals that sorta encourage folks back? Or is Rygar less obscure that I imagine?

Unity has been a big part of my professional life and I still love that company (despite the many mistakes by management) and the people who work there ..
So to see its stock dive below $20 when at some point it was $190 hurts a bit ๐Ÿ˜ž
Oh what could've been ..

glassbottommeg,
@glassbottommeg@peoplemaking.games avatar

@logicalerror yeah, whole thing is a bummer. Mostly I'm trying to focus on it being fun to learn a new engine? Like, Unreal has indeed knocked me out of a creative rut, so that's neat! Also just, yeah. Alas.

Turns out I have a sprained middle finger

Objectively the funniest place to get a sprain

glassbottommeg,
@glassbottommeg@peoplemaking.games avatar

@JoshJers "No, no, I don't dislike you it's just a sprain you see" <giggling> "See? Look, it's a bad sprain, can't bend it at all"

I bet there's data somewhere on the correlation between spraining one's middle finger and later having that finger broken

@Ajo1322 That was SUCH a good student game, heh. Punched so far above its weight.

glassbottommeg,
@glassbottommeg@peoplemaking.games avatar

@Ajo1322 There's always the possibility they'll be back. En Garde had a pretty big lag between its student game incarnation and the eventual release.

Why the heck is there a Hellblade sequel? The first was a complete and fully realised story.

glassbottommeg,
@glassbottommeg@peoplemaking.games avatar

@jaco Saw a review that was literally asking, that. Apparently it's this aimless kinda wandering around of boiled down Good Guys vs Bad Guys, seeing as how Senua got her mental health in order in the first one and isn't seeing HELL WORLD anymore.

It's a weird choice! The very first teaser trailer for the sequel had some of the first game's juice, but everything past that sorta felt like they didn't know where they were going with it?

@orangeglowgames Well, good news, the jump logic does indeed work heh.

Also that looked great! The jump, up->down transition, airborn up/down and landing all looked solid.

Ok indies (and I'm looking especially at you Death's Door)

look, screen shake is great, but if I'm struggling with a boss because I can't see what's going on, turn off all your FX, and then beat the boss without taking a hit,

That's too much juice, let some of the juice out, be like 20% less juicy

glassbottommeg,
@glassbottommeg@peoplemaking.games avatar

What if the real assist mode was the quality settings we desperately tried turning to zero along the way

glassbottommeg,
@glassbottommeg@peoplemaking.games avatar

Anyways, Death's Door aesthetic is interesting. If you peel back the layers, what's there is really simple, so I suspect they felt they had to over-compensate with Stuff on top. Not entirely sure they really needed all that Stuff? but I get the inclination regardless.

glassbottommeg,
@glassbottommeg@peoplemaking.games avatar

I will learn nothing from this and over-juice our next game in exactly the same way, out of concern that our lowfi aesthetic is otherwise just a bit too plain. Naturally.

Sickos Haha GIF

glassbottommeg,
@glassbottommeg@peoplemaking.games avatar

@djf1107 not really? It's interesting to see how another game did the aesthetic, but gameplay wise we're in a totally different park.

It's more that I was doing aesthetic research, started looking at screens of it, and went "wait why didn't I beat this?! It was great!" heh.

glassbottommeg,
@glassbottommeg@peoplemaking.games avatar

@brazmogu eh, really it's nothing like Souls. It came out in that era where everything was, so it kinda got tarred with that brush, but it's quite forgiving. No death penalty at all! Pretty great.

It's hard, but no harder than most games like this really.
