@MonaApp Question: When translate is set to Apple Translate, is DeepL still used?
Also, a bug report: the iPhone & iPad versions are freezing up when displaying MonaApp’s account information in the Replies section. From what I can tell, it only happens with the MonaApp account! (I had to quit the app several times in order to send this post.) [Maybe something in one of the posts is causing it?]

@activitypubblueskybridge Hope this is not an obvious question… I have enabled my Bluesky account for federation and it appears in Search on mastodon.social but when I try to follow it, the status is Pending. I’m not seeing any follow request at Bluesky however. Is there anything else that I should do or is Bluesky still not fully supporting yet?

I’ve decided to follow lots of folks on threads.net and I’ll now start unfollowing any folks that post too much stuff that I don’t find helpful — nothing new here. But I’m wondering, if I search for users with mastodon.social, it seems like I never see user results from threads.net unless I’m already following them. Is this a current limitation of the system or just my imagination? @tchambers, Do you know the answer?

He’s here! The prototype, anyway. He’s big, squishy, and friend-shaped. We’ll try to make him as affordable as possible. You’ll have to wait a couple more months to get one, but we might open pre-orders relatively soon.

One thing that does need an update, fast, is Apple's 30Hz hand tracking for games. Seeing it side by side with a Quest 3, with physical controllers updating effectively 1:1 with hand movements, rotations & more, it makes Apple's solution look so dated, clunky, and just plain bad. Apple’s skeletal hand tracking is the resistive touchscreen of VR input — controlling an OS with oven mitts. If Apple doesn't have a team working on physical controllers it's hard to see this platform having a 3D future

I tried just “X” in Ivory, but it pulled up everything that contained an X.

Just a guess, but here it goes: Apple Vision Pro launches outside the U.S. before WWDC, so that Apple can create a more compelling narrative about visionOS when they have the attention of developers worldwide.

So say visionOS launches without the ability to download ‘key’ apps like Netflix, YouTube, TikTok, Google Docs, Gmail, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Ivory, etc, how excited would you still be for the platform?

iPad was bootstrapped off of iPhone's success, and there was no meaningful opt-out for apps so basically everything ran on day one, and there was a strong incentive for devs to port to native. Giving a checkbox to opt out of visionOS, though, I feel is going to prove to be a huge mistake

Is there anything that can be done to stop seeing the same boosts over and over again?

My understanding is that if you check the setting box to hide repeat boosts, it is temporary and quickly overwhelmed by a busy feed.

It seems like this should be a primary target to fix. It is confusing to new users, and the “cost” is huge: a million+ active users each seeing tens or hundreds of repeat boosts whenever they log in, obscuring new content and generally being an annoyance /rant

6 composite photos of Dick Van Dyke (& me, my class) in black box theater of public perform. arts high school where I taught/directed Comedy class/shows. Dick wanted to see us in action, loved it, asked me to write/direct his annual theater prod. to "make it funnier."

I couldn't believe Dick Van Dyke asked ME to make HIM funnier. Did it for 2 yrs, finally had to quit due to time conflicts.

He visited us, played w/ us, had a ball! I'm the redhead in blue jeans. Here we go!

Today is my 15th Appleversary! In 2008-ish my mom took the left photo of me. I was exiting the first Apple building I ever worked in. It was later torn down and its site (and its recycled materials!) were used for Apple Park. Funny how things come full circle, because Apple Park is where I’m able to leap with joy (with amazing coworkers!) today, as demonstrated in the photo on the right! What a truly remarkable 15 years. Here’s to 15 more!
