The twitter block issue is caused by Firfox filters. Firefox is working on a fix. The announcement reads as: Hey folks, we are aware of the Twitter issue and our team is working on a fix at the moment.

In the meantime, disabling Enhanced Tracking Protection or changing it from Strict should fix this issue temporarily. Here's how to do that: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/enhanced-tracking-protection-firefox-desktop#w_what-to-do-if-a-site-seems-broken

I had a 7a customer call this morning and knew I'd need to skip the gym to make it happen so I set my alarm for 6:15 to give me enough time to wake up (read: become human again).

But at 5:35a I woke up in a panic with "oh shit, that call is at 6a isn't it!!?".

Thanks subconscious for helping me make the meeting. Next time can we, I don't know, think about it at 10p the night before instead of in a blind panic from a deep sleep the morning of?

Voted! The Conservatives have done everything they can to disenfranchise people at this election and have raised the stakes by taking us back to FPTP for the mayoralty. This is an attack, particularly, on young and minority voters. Don’t lose your voice. Dig out your ID and vote!

The level of enshittification of the Internet from LLMs is truly spectacular.

Search for anything (in my case my ice maker doesn’t produce ice correctly) is now an exercise in futility.

Wonder if we can ever dig ourselves out of this level of shit.

I was using a running as my router, but my ISP boosted my connection to 1Gbit and the poor thing couldn’t keep up. I’m currently using my ISPs supplied Linksys Velop router, but I’d much rather run something I can tinker with. Any recommendations?

How is it that "Tractor-driving anti-Ulez protesters bring traffic to a standstill around London" is good, and will not be arrested and jailed, but Stop Oil protesters are bad?

And we don’t have these headlines:

Automobile addicts block roads in selfish protest against London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone

The ULEZ will remove the most polluting vehicles from London’s roads, improving the health of everyone, but particularly children. Most cars already meet the ULEZ standards, but despite generous subsidies to replace older polluting vehicles (paid for by all other Londoners), a small group of petrol perverts are determined to cause chaos.

I don't know why it took me this long to articulate this thought, but Tesla's charging model is ultimately a trap for themselves:

They rely on other folks to provide services near their charging sites. That's clever, BUT it means they do not make any money from those services.

And that's precisely what keeps gas stations in business. They compete with one another to such an extent that the fuel is sold barely above cost, and the store/car wash/cafe is where they /actually/ make money.

mdonkin,
@mdonkin@mastodon.me.uk avatar

@TechConnectify Above cost enough that the oil companies make hundreds of billions – At least in the UK, forecourts are often run by the oil companies. But your point stands, Tesla doesn’t generate any of the energy it sells.

mdonkin,
@mdonkin@mastodon.me.uk avatar

@TechConnectify Oh. I don’t know. Maybe. We also have some supermarkets that sell petrol, but I suspect that’s really more about getting customers in.

Y'know how I like nuance and am skeptical of simple narratives?

Well, I have a bugbear regarding the discussion on pedestrian fatalities in the US.

To start this thread, I'd like to think I have an unbiased perspective here. I don't drive a very large vehicle, I loathe the arms race in vehicle size, and I welcome all efforts to reduce car-dependence and make our streets safer for all.

But... every discussion I listen to on this topic is real handwavey on the impacts of distracted driving.

The private banks, including many former mutual funds, failed. Privatised rail has failed. Privatised water is failing. Privatisation only works in the best of times. When the worst of times comes, the public has to bail them out.

The worst of times will always come, so if it’s something we can’t allow to fail, perhaps privatisation is not the right model.
