While #SadiqKhan won the #election for #LondonMayor, beating #Tory candidate #SusanHall, after a very fractious campaign, the quote of the day belongs to one of the minor candidates standing, #CountBinface (no relation to #LordBuckethead), who still beat the #BritainFirst's #NickScanlon and said,
"It looks like I have defeated Britain First in an election.
“Come on, you have to cheer about that…down with fascism, up with Ceefax, what can I say?”
Seems Khan has #LondonMayor in the bag, despite lots of rumours of it being at risk.
This seems to be such a common social media thing - lots of people saying he's probably safe, but the handful of people saying he's in danger get a lot more airtime as it's just more interesting.
I'm not sure if it's doomsayers, or misguided hope from people desperate trying to boost #ulez hatred. #ukpol
Voted! The Conservatives have done everything they can to disenfranchise people at this election and have raised the stakes by taking us back to FPTP for the mayoralty. This is an attack, particularly, on young and minority voters. Don’t lose your voice. Dig out your ID and vote!
#LondonMayor election tomorrow. I'll be voting for Sadiq Khan. I'd like to say I've formed a nuanced view of London politics and his record as mayor, but the truth is I'm just looking at the rediculous unti-ULEZ brouhaha and making sure I vote the opposite way to that lot.
I've looked through the candidates for London Mayor tonight, it's quite bleak. Lots of racists, TERFs, anti-woke axe-grinders (do you want some salt for that chip on your shoulder?), conspiracy theorists and people who are mostly intent on punching down. Oh, and there's that bloke who drinks his own piss and was booted off YouTube for interviewing David Icke. He's removed the piss-drinking from his Wikipedia entry.
Interesting to note that the most recent #conservative literature delivered to my door does not mention their candidate for #LondonMayor . An oversight or some residual sense of shame ?
If you follow British politics at all, you'll be familiar with Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London, who is up for re-election in May. His campaign and the politics surrounding his current term are providing a glimpse of the craziness that is likely to come in the next six months before November's US elections.
New Statesman: "Susan Hall: some Jews are “frightened” by “divisive” Sadiq Khan
The Tory London mayoral candidate has been accused of dog-whistle politics over her comments to a Conservative Friends of Israel fringe meeting."
