    @aral people can't seem to bring themselves to sever the relationship with FB/Insta/Meta entirely. There's a block to seeing that entire entity as toxic. Like other additictions, there may be some pleasure in using or having used it in the past, but ultimately it could kill you.

    Say what you want about and its prescient spot-on bleakness but Charlie Brooker figured out a coherent and true-to-the-narrative means of having Salma Hayek, one of the hottest human beings on the face of the Planet Earth in my lifetime, say on camera in a narrative audiovisual story "Doesn't my asshole have any rights?" and I think this may be what the historians call an "epoch-making event."

    If the mastodon ~community wants to be more welcoming to more people, someone is going to have to do bystander training for dealing with people like this dude. (And the other guys who told her to just block.) He responded to a Black woman’s post about it feeling super white here and went on for like seven posts telling her how to speak and how he was helping her be better.

    By not making this guy’s replies visible to most people bc of federation weirdness, the software plays a role, too.

    @trochee @kissane less boosting, but something that would allow more users to see this interaction, even temporarily. Creeps get by by hiding in the shadows. Mastodon's model allows this.

    It echoes what others have been saying, sure. Maybe the mechanism is something like a "submit for moderation" or "gift article" - where others can then see it, for a while. Unfortunately this would put the onus on the recipient of bad behaviors.

    • endangers the LGBTQ+ community and
