@whitequark it may be NP-hard to prove whether advanced optimizers terminate? I’m pretty sure there are only subset proofs. many optimizers just „hammer things until nothing changes“ - without any guarantee of local/global optimality.

not sure about llvm!

@lsanoj Ich muss ans Nokia N900 zurückdenken - das war das einzige Telefon wo Messaging eine integrierte Systemfunktion war. Selbst OTR-Crypto gab es unabhängig vom Messenger. Sowas geht natürlich nicht wenn alle ihren eigenen Brand schieben...

I never wanted to become a man. But if not this, what do I become instead? It feels like hiding in public, by rejecting the notion of being a man. This constitutes an identity of negativity, of not being anything. But I want to be something, so I have to become something - something that is uncharted and sometimes rejected, but still something of my own.

@futurebird I don‘t filter languages, because I can guess at quite a few. I‘m aware that this is a privilege, but I feel weird about it - like everyone should have it.

In doubt, translations aren‘t bad these days… 🙂

And Germans be shocked, that English got rid of grammatical gender, while German stabilized due to invention of the printing press… kids be jealous.

@whitequark I much prefer community-based OSS, where we can engage with users from the start. at work, I used to maintain a framework for in-house users, and that was
much nicer than doing it for unknowns on the net.

@whitequark not quite. it was a nice and personable company - not quite as fake as the usual. one reason was that it was founded by artists, as an art association. on the other hand, what you say would have been true for some people too. I’m still not sure what to think about that, over a decade later.

Lufthansa cancelled our flights a few hours before departure and suggested via automated mail to instead take a train. From Hamburg to Venice.

That got me interested, but it takes about 15 hours to get there. On the other hand it's just 1200 km.

I wish we had a European high-speed train backbone, connecting all the big cities or similar. I would use it, even if the travel times would be twice as long and the prices twice as much as flying.

Better yet, you know whose words you don't need to trust, because you aren't obligated to use any particular server? And the software is open source? And regularly audited by security researchers?

I don‘t feel unsafe or unwelcome in that local crowd. I don‘t even believe in that „welcoming and safe“ stuff very much. It‘s simply too narrow a selection of people, with mostly self-centered interests. way to dig yourself into nerdcore, and looking nice to the neo-libs, without actually engaging society.

In meinem WLAN können manche Geräte manchmal nicht mehr connecten. Dann hilft weder neu booten des Rooters noch des Geräts. Was hilft ist allerdings das WLAN-Passwort löschen und neu eingeben. Das Problem tritt sowohl unter Windows als auch unter Linux auf. Jemand ne Idee was das sein kann?

@benni ich würde mal nen anderen Router probieren. Bei WLAN passiert relativ viel, und es gibt besonders viele Bugs in den diversen Stacks.

@benni auf Linux könntest du versuchen an das log vom wpa_supplicant zu kommen. das ist oft relativ aussagekräftig - und sagt mitunter auch konkret, welche Seite ausgebucht hat.
