I’ve often wanted a fast, easy way to post a message into a room in a way that’s simple and secure.Enter #pokem, a simple CLI tool that can also run as a daemon. You create a user for it to run as, configure it to use that user, and invite that user to whatever rooms you want.
Remotely, you can send a POST request and it will put the data into the room. No fuss, no muss.
So I can run curl --fail -d "hello, matrix" 'https://pokem.koehn.com/<room id>' from any script and it will put the message there automagically, even if the room is E2EE.
Feel free to invite @pokem:koehn.com to your matrix room (on any home server) and you can do the same.
Matrix certrainly has its rough edges, but I find it awesome that pretty much every major Linux community now has their dedicated space. All federated, of course.

@awoodsnet #Emacs has been great for writing, listening to internet radio, connecting to #mastodon and #matrix, managing multi #email accounts and maybe some #coding if I get bored. It's more than just a text editor and can be a #frontend to many great applications.

Camus a raison, le principal truc qui consomme c’est la fédération. Au début, j’avais essayé de fédérer #matrix:matrix.org et mon serveur a rendu l’ame. J’ai du réinstaller.
Matrix est fondamentalement assez lourd mais si tu ne federe pas c’est tranquille. Synapse est lui aussi plutôt lourdeau et conduit se fait attendre, mais je ne m’attend pas a des miracles des performance non plus, le protocole est fait pour faire grand usage de routines de crypto et la crypto ça consomme. Je pense que d’ici la sortie de conduit, le matos disponible pour faire un serveur chez soi sera assez puissant pour que même synapse tourne sans trop de problèmes.
En relación al debate que surge de gente a la que le irrita que se recomiende #Matrix en vez de #XMPP, diría que uséis lo que más os guste para vuestros grupos/comunidades y punto, que cada cual tendréis vuestras razones para preferir una u otra cosa.

Como añadido, recomendaría #SimpleX muy por encima de los dos, privado y seguro (hasta ahora) el abordaje de usuario es súper amigable
Lo puedo recomendar después de venir usando #Matrix y #XMPP asiduamente, no volvería a usarlos
