Maybe I forgot what things cost back then. It seems like a lot of money to me. Then again, I do recall paying US$60-80 for a tall stack of blank CDs in the early aughts and if memory serves, The Sims was something like US$40-60 when it debuted. Technology does start out more expensive when it's new, doesn't it?
