In the 2000s, I didn't think the U.S. political environment could possibly get worse. The President was a nincompoop and a liar, but he had everyone's backing because he was President when 9/11 happened. I can't even wrap my head around how much worse things have gotten since Trump entered politics.

rasmus91,
@rasmus91@fosstodon.org avatar

@apgarcia good years? Isn't that a bit of an exaggeration?

Granted, I don't live in the US, but from where I'm sitting here looks to be going okay... Compared to the alternative of course, he is doing absolutely brilliantly.

Whizz wants to own the delivery e-bike subscription space, starting with NYC | TechCrunch

@BigAngBlack this sounds like pretty much the same offer as Swapfiets has in a lot of European cities. I've rented a Swapfiets bike (not for deliveries, just commuting) and I've been really happy with it.

I hope they turn out to be as good as Swapfiets.

Alright, lots of heavy discussions today, so let's talk about something silly!

What is a movie that always makes you laugh?

Personal pick:

Anything Mel Brooks, but Robin Hood: Men in Tights, it's just funny every time I watch it.

We're excited to announce the latest Framework Laptop 13 with Intel Core Ultra Series 1, an optional 2880x1920 120Hz display (ideal for 2:1 scaling on Linux), and new configurations for businesses with 3 year warranties. Pre-orders are open now.

Now i just need some cash for one 🤔

If there's one thing that is going to drive me away from Gnome, it's the crappy GTK file managers.

Thunar has some odd drag and drop bugs that bug me, and the way it focuses on the panes is very odd, so often I will think one pane is in focus when it's not.

Double commander is just a mess

Nautilus is broken on my install.

Nemo doesn't remember position. Same with pcmanfm.

I tried Krusader and it doesn't work great in Gnome. Neither does Dolphin.

I wish Spacefm wasn't abandoned.

rasmus91,
@rasmus91@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxcast Best file manager I have ever used on GTK is elementary OS's "Files" Its simple, its powerful, if I want to do something trickier, its the CLI.

I’ve been having a great time with my new @frameworkcomputer laptop. The flexibility is really unique. First I got to build the laptop myself with parts, and now I get it to be what I want it to be with regards to input and ports and such. I’ll probably swap out the screen bezel for a bolder color, though. The purple is not very purple. Worth the 6 month wait!

Framework laptop with keyboard aligned left and rgb macro pad on the right.

@ucodery i really like nix with direnv, but getting it to work with python is just no fun at all.

Been using poetry2nix but after i Split part of the project into a seperate lib, i found out poetry2nix installing of private packages is almost not supported at all, i sort of hit a wall.

Now I'm just using poetry with direnv.

Ive tried multiple build systems for python by now, and i must say, i really like it less and less ☹️

So @danirabbit posted wallpapers, one of them was of foot prints going into the dunes (at the beach)

Having grown up close to the beach, and spent many summer days there, I could almost feel the wind and sand and taste and smell the air. And like a song can get stuck in your head, its almost like this impression is right now. I REALLY want to go to the west coast right now... Maybe I will get the blue Cold Hawaii beer, that one sort of tastes like west coast

bicycles are the linux of getting around

rasmus91,
@rasmus91@fosstodon.org avatar

@whitequark @scherzog @hailey e-bikes are great. I go 23 km either way everyday on mine.

They are just supposed to even out slopes and wind a bit, and accelerate to 25 km/h faster. They are not supposed to be electric scooters, those already exist.

Also regarding torque and all that: there's a mechanical limit to what the motors can do too. Most can do no more than 250W while those on pedelecs go to 350

My wife has been learning Italian via Duolingo, which I believe has to be painting an inaccurate picture of how much life in Italy revolves around tiramisu. I just cannot accept that every conversation in Italy involves tiramisu.

rasmus91,
@rasmus91@fosstodon.org avatar

@nyquildotorg to be fair: I've been learning some Japanese on duo lingo, and it feels like they are trying to convince me that i could go eat at a restaurant and it would be perfectly normal to just order rice and water for a meal.

rasmus91,
@rasmus91@fosstodon.org avatar

@nyquildotorg what?

I just don't think you appreciate Italian culture: take Rome for instance, it's a city where you could spend a day:

  • Seeing the Colosseum, and having tiramisu.
  • Picnic on one of the lawns of the Rings of the old imperial palace, and have tiramisu
  • have a cone of gelato... With tiramisu flavour
  • watch a soccer game with your friends and hurl your tiramisu at the TV when your team loses.
  • invite your special someone over to your place so you can make a fresh tiramisu

@gamingonlinux I love that they do a Linux version!

But personally, this is a game I play with friends on Windows, and since there is no cross platform compatibility, and they are not planning on making that (same for the first and second game in the series) I think they should just focus on making the game run PERFECTLY in Proton at all times.

I think many others are in the same situation as me on this one.

I can't emphasize enough how good a game this really is.

Having a bit trouble with nausea, but what I didn't expect is that the nausea doesn't start until well after the effects are supposed to have worn off. I can "operate heavy machinery" at 2 hours post-dose, but it feels like I'm carsick for hours and hours.
