My charitable interpretation of schools is daycare for kids with any actual education as a happy side benefit, but my less than charitable interpretation of schools is part-time jail for kids with the happy side benefit of state indoctrination and any actual education as a distant third thing that I guess also sometimes happens there
How the pandemic has been handled in schools (or more like the lack thereof) has not improved my reading of schooling as an institution

As a victim of bullying the state indoctrination part really hits home, had to repair the damage that over half a decade of harassment and neglect had on me myself and it took years to stop blaming myself for the injuries inflicted on me under the care of the state. Whenever I do interact with the state the effect, and perhaps even the intention is to silence people through the cheapest means possible and school set that tone by trying to placate both the victims and abusers and sweep the incidents under the rug..

@juliank Probably weird because I'm kind of in a "twitter migration" situation. Getting ever sicker of discord so I thought I better branch out and see what alternatives are out there, even if it does mean a change in attitude and expectations. Mostly I just want somewhere to set up shop so that if shit hits the fan I have more than email to fall back on, if I find people to chatter with that's definitely a bonus.

Not often it happens but sometimes due to internet speeds or wonky federation images don't load right and having alt text then helps to understand context. As for audio I rarely browse fedi with sound on so having text to give the context that audio otherwise would is also a big plus
Wow, it seems like politicians are getting on my nerves again. Here in Germany, we have this amazing "Deutschland Ticket" that allows you to travel affordably by public transportation throughout the country. It costs around 50 Euros. Now, these corpo-friendly politicians are whining that it's too cheap and should be more expensive.
Yeah, right, you asshats! They'd rather keep subsidizing damn cars instead of promoting public transportation.

All too easy for some to forget public transport is a service, not a business. You wouldn't whinge about the fire department being "too cheap" and look for ways to charge people for every emergency call.
Xenoblade Chronicles X so we can have the whole series in one console and I can keep playing X well after my Wii U has died (which it currently is)
Fatal Frame Original Trilogy for Switch. Gimmie 1-3 which aren't (iirc) available anywhere currently. Toss them on Switch so the whole series can not only be available for everyone, but I can play through my fav horror series on repeat between Xenoblade outings.

Brexit was such a major self-own. They thought they were gatekeeping “low-skilled” workers (which is stupid, because they need them). But also the UK is currently losing “high-skilled” workers to places like the US where the pay is better. Previously, “high-skilled” workers from the EU would in turn relocate to UK for higher pay. But now that they’ve replaced free movement with a lengthy visa process, a lot will just relocate to other EU countries that still have free movement, or the US where they can make far more. They really swapped ease of access with trying to compete for visa applicants with countries like US/AU/NZ, which are infinitely more appealing.

From a commerce aspect it's quite damning as well, from what I've heard it's been a headache for both UK consumers and sellers. Speaking as a EU citizen .uk and the £ in my mind has become as unfavoured as US imports and shopping around just after brexit there were stores that had like 120 EUR or something limits on orders to the UK due to some shipping/VAT issue I don't quite remember.
In the end though this doesn't look like a hole they'll easily dig themselves out from, whether it be domestically or internationally.
I was relatively happy with Windows showing different lock screen images of places, countries, nature etc, but all I see how is Starfield images and I feel that is a bit too intrusive. I hope this doesn't become a trend for their own games because I do like the feature overall.

Interesting to see it's not only me seeing an increase in ads, for me tho it's MLB the show or whatever coming up as a notification from "suggested". I get the feeling it's pushed based on region or something because I have no interest in sports games apart from racing, much less yearly released ones.
