Never quite know what will grab my attention. I’ve moved on from just agreeing that climate change will drastically affect the next generations and am actively looking at ways to build resilience and support each other. My generation has to hold its hands up and admit we failed to prevent this. Sorry kids. Going to spend my remaining time enjoying the best of humanity not the worst - art, cooperatives, writing, music, history, film (I should have just said arts), random stuff, etc. He/him

All the disbelief about the high public vote for Israel shows how on social media we tend to live in echo chambers of like minded people. If everyone did think like we do then we wouldn’t get the governments we do voted in.

have made a huge headache for themselves. If Israel win, the next competition will, of course, be held there. So the problems will not end on Saturday, but will loom over for another year.

Does anyone remember the 80s being a "decade of renewal"?

GPLB: "Rachel Reeves says Labour wants ‘inclusive’ version of ‘decade of renewal’ that followed Thatcher’s election in 1979"

seb321,
@seb321@toot.community avatar

@fkamiah17 It was the decade that launched us on this trajectory away from public and community responsibility towards ever more held privately by ever fewer. No government ever should be allowed to sell off assets that belong to the country.

Labour under Starmer is the homeopathic remedy for Conservativism. Socialism watered down to the point where there is not one molecule of it left.

As there’s going to be months of posts on here, many of them by people I respect and agree with on most issues, saying “vote to keep Trump/the Tories out”: I’m not going to keep arguing - I’ll just leave this here.

If you are right, and the only way we can avoid fascism is to vote for parties which are supporting genocide, then we are already doomed. If the answer is that compromise then our humanity is lost. Personally, I think there are other ways to defeat fascism, but they are very hard.

Ireland 🇮🇪
Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
Belgium 🇧🇪
Luxembourg 🇱🇺
Norway 🇳🇴
Slovenia 🇸🇮 doubled funding
Portugal 🇵🇹 donating an extra €1ml
Spain 🇪🇸 trebled funding to €50ml.

Celebrate them

OMG South Africa are heroes ✊ 🇿🇦 🇵🇸
The South African Government should be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

After this piece in the Jerusalem post last week (read it if you like, it's utter garbage)

"Major South African banks provide platform to fund Hamas"

South Africa's response today 👇

seb321,
@seb321@toot.community avatar

@fkamiah17 It’s poetic how South Africa has stepped up to this. It’s like someone from an abusive upbringing standing up to abusers in other homes.

seb321,
@seb321@toot.community avatar

@fkamiah17 It’s scary because we all assume that if a war comes, we will be asked to fight on the right side. Now we realise what it must have felt like in Germany, Italy, and Spain in the 30s.

@Deembe @Henrysbridge @MadeyeTheCarnaptious @fkamiah17 @Roadwarrior29 But Scotland chose to remain within the EU, so your argument falls down because clearly however closely Scotland had considered the benefits etc. didn’t make an iota of difference because they don’t have the right to make independent choices. If they did, they’d be in a bigger union than the UK right now.

Rather than cry foul when religion is cited as the cause of atrocities, maybe it’s time people really examined what their religion is trying to do. If someone is claiming a historical right to a piece of land because they belong to a religion which has history there, then that is a real problem if someone else is living there now. If children are being indoctrinated into that belief then the situation will repeat in the next generation. Religion is always a members’ club and that’s a problem.

If a seesaw is tipping one way, you can’t balance it by standing in the middle. You have two choices: move enough people to the other side that you can start to tip it your way or push the people off who are tipping it the wrong way.
