Question for @Flipboard

Is there a way to flip @lisamelton's coverage of the Hush Money Trial into a magazine to follow that way? Her curation is :boost_requested:🥇

Hey Tooters. Can you please make sure you select your language settings in etc. correctly when you post something? Otherwise, you are spamming other timelines in a language that many can't read. There is a lot of Japanese coming in here at the moment, which is unfortunately unreadable for me. Thank you very much! :)

Absorb this graph—but note that the final year is 2018, the year of Trump’s tax cuts. That’s #Trump’s big goal, always has been: to rip off working people and hand huge bags of cash to the ultra-wealthy, like himself and his Mar-a-Lago buddies.

Rutger Bregman:

Stunning graph: the plummeting tax rates of the richest Americans. For the first time in history, billionaires have a lower effective tax rate than working-class Americans.

When everyone keeps asking "why is inflation so bad right now, damn Biden!" I always say "Remember those Trump era tax cuts? We're paying for them right now." This graph is proof of that.

@starrwulfe@vivaldi.net avatar

@Alon How about visiting here first before you do any of that stuff?

I live close enough to SEE 'the rock' outside on my street and what most people enjoy is the biggest open space in suburban Atlanta full of nature trails, playgrounds, camping spots, and a cheap place to do family outings, weddings, etc.

The entire area around here is mostly African-American with some Latino, Asian, African and European immigrants and many of the older Caucasians that didn't move away. There will be no bombing of my favorite place to chill simply because three old traitor generals are carved up there-- we already ran the KKK outta here 30 years ago, and we are placing all the racist statues and iconography in a museum so we can remember what we shouldn't do ever again.

That carving was put there to symbolize hate, but I laugh at it all the time, because this is one of the most diverse parts of Atlanta metro now! LOL

We will figure out what to do with our mountain that pleases everyone but most of all Mother Nature eventually. My idea is to add to it-- put MLK and every black mayor of ATL on there since 1975 (all of them since then have been Black). Someone even said put OutKast and Tyler Perry up there because they made us the 2nd entertainment capital of the US.

We'll get around to it, but til then, come visit!

So Post.news is shutting down huh?

Should’ve added some to it.

Micro transactions for certain feature articles are ok but not the ehole shebang. And in 2024, I refuse to deal with anything that isn’t potentially using ActivityPub or can otherwise be federated and followed by my main accounts.

Health Checkup: My yearly physical exam went well, except for slightly elevated fasting glucose levels. The doctor emphasized exercise to prevent diabetes.
Exercise Dilemma: Since returning from Japan, I’ve lacked motivation for exercise. But now, I’ve decided to buy a bike and resume my overseas fitness routine.

ActivityPub for WordPress was updated today adding Bidirectional Comment Federation.

Means I can type in the comments to replies and they should federate back over to the original thread. Before, WordPress really couldn’t act as a discussion federator; I made it easy on myself by just federating my comment URLs via webmention to wherever they needed to go manually (copy comment, paste into other website text box, submit.) Or at the very best, use my Mastodon or MicroBlog account to respond. Hopefully this makes replying back to others easier now; although I still don’t know about Webmention support or how it works in syndication…

I guess let’s find out? 🙈

@starrwulfe@vivaldi.net avatar

@pfefferle there’s also a big bug in here where any nested reply past the 3rd level somehow winds up on the front page of the site instead of where its parent is, dropping COMMENT_POST_ID and getting the default <2>.

I’m doing some serious SQL fixing right now to move comments where they should be, but is there already an issue out for this in the Girhub?

So is it just mass shootings in the top places for murders overall going down or just in general or...

I certainly feel like I didn't see as many in the news this year but then again 1/4 of the year has been consumed by a mass genocidal rampage half a world away and its definitely sucking up all the media attention...

starrwulfe,
@starrwulfe@vivaldi.net avatar

@agitatedpotato yeah, no doubt those are factors indeed, especially the mental health one.
Wife made a succinct point at how much more stressful life in the States is in general with regard to the “keep up or die” lifestyle we have here and I feel it’s a major contributor.

Miss one paycheck or slip on a bar of soap in the shower and wind up with a $20000 hospital bill and cause several years of worry and paranoia (as an example). Other places in the world don’t have to deal with that, hence they also don’t have the mental illness rates we do
(Again simple example for a complex variable just for illustration purposes; don’t flame pls 😉)

    @RM_Transit I’ve had similar arguments about carriage houses/granny flats/ADUs in Atlanta. People won’t rent them because “what if the car that’s being parked below them explodes?” Meanwhile every other week around here:

    Here's what we know about the fire at The Reserve at LaVista Walk

    I don’t get it. Isn’t that what renter’s insurance is for?

    starrwulfe,
    @starrwulfe@vivaldi.net avatar

    @RM_Transit depends on the style of apartment of course. Around here, most apartments are low-rise units that are max 3 storey and security comes from the set of gates that may or may not be allowing cars/pedestriana into the whole complex. Certainly 5/1 and block apartments with parkades are better/denser (and make it much difficult for thieves!) But there's some aversion to living in density like that around suburban ATL.

    I actually miss the townhome condo I lived in in the outskirts of Yokohama. No yard to cut, a city park across the road, two convenience stores withing e minutes walking, train station 5 minutes down the street with a mall, bus plaza, and great views of Mt Fuji.

    If/when my work situation changes, I'm going back to something similar 🙏🏾
