, the worst genocide of the 21st century, has been the single most disturbing event in my lifetime. Not only this genocide, but also seeing the ease with which so many people deny it, with so much anger towards those who have the audacity to even mention the genocide.

The fact that a genocide of this proportion has been executed with such little media coverage & that the likes of Last Week Tonight had ZERO interest in even mentioning it a single time, regardless of how many angles I gave them, is something I will never forget.

Speaking of "AI Safety," Max Tegmark was chillin with Netanyahu & Elmo a few months ago talking about "existential risks to humanity" they collectively need to "save" us from, & dude's institute recently got ~$700M from TESCREAL crypto billionaire.

Masters of gaslighting.

And because they don't have enough money and influence, and haven't caused enough harm, people tell us to "build bridges" to them to ensure they have access to every imaginable space.

I haven't commented on the latest idiocy w.r.t. Google & their "AI summaries." But I honestly don't have anything left to say. We wrote all the papers to be written & gave all the warnings to be given.

Maybe they'll all destroy each other chasing this AGI dream of theirs🤷‍♀️

When I worked at Google, there was a semblance of "labor laws" that they might be slightly afraid of, in theory.

In the nonprofit sector, we have white women going around naming Black & Arab women as threats to THEIR safety & I find out about it from someone they said this to.

timnitGebru,
@timnitGebru@dair-community.social avatar

White women in the nonprofit sector are very networked, because white male billionaires wanna give them their $ to do "good." If they don't give it to their white dude friends, they'll give it to the white women doing "good."

The level of white fragility from white women in this cursed sector talking about "being attacked" & "feeling threatened" while claiming to do "justice" or "community" is nauseating. At least at tech co.s it was understood that "doing good" was just propaganda after profit

Also, f@$k them...

33 years of Eritrean "independence" in a nutshell.

Journalist: When are elections going to be held in Eritrea"? They were scheduled in 2001 & didn't take place. When is it going to happen?

Isayas: What elections?

Journalist: Elections in Eritrea

Isayas: We will wait for ~3-4 decades until we see genuine natural situations

Journalist: You're saying that Eritrea is going to wait for 3-4 decades before it holds elections?

Isayas: Maybe more, maybe more, who knows.

❗️Urgent Call to Rebuild Healthcare in War-Torn Tigray.❗️

I'll be matching up to $15k of your donations.

GoFundMe is unreliable for the horn of Africa atm, so I am using TipHub for this campaign.

Please let me know if you have any issues donating.

timnitGebru,
@timnitGebru@dair-community.social avatar

This money would allow us to ship a 40-foot container full of medical supplies to Tigray, equipping 18 health facilities that serve hundreds of thousands of people, many of whom have to travel 100s of miles to access any type of healthcare facility.

Thank you to 120 of you who donated!

We are almost 2/3rd's there. We're less than $6k away from reaching our goal.

"Leike had said that OpenAI's "safety culture & processes have taken a backseat to shiny products" in recent years, and that his team struggled to obtain the resources to get their safety work done."

Lol. But there never was a "safety culture"!

The founding of OpenAI was premised on "existential risk" of AI to "humanity," the new grift white men created to siphon even more resources for themselves under the guise of saving all of us.

So much "AI safety" when they're getting billions from Microsoft, Anthropic is getting billions from Amazon, and they're all trying to gobble up even more money from regimes like the UAE and Saudi Arabia. I don't know about you, but it certainly screams "safety" doesn't it?

5k Eritreans estimated to flee EACH MONTH & 22% of asylum seekers arriving in Europe were Eritrean, 2nd only to Syrians even though the latter have 6x the population of Eritrea.

This is 8 years ago. Things have only gotten exponentially worse.

Its also illegal to leave the country with a shoot to kill policy at the border if you're caught. Still people would rather risk that than the alternative of staying.

strangetown,
@strangetown@toot.wales avatar

@timnitGebru Thank you for sharing this. I have supported and still am supporting Eritrean men who have fled the country and claimed asylum here in the UK. I knew things were bad and fortunately even the Home Office recognises this and almost invariably grants asylum, but it's good to see it laid out like this even if it is 8 years old.

I’m just thinking about how some of the biggest genociders in the 20th and 21st centuries have gotten Nobel peace prizes. 🤔

I kind of see it more as a warning label at this point.

Friends, I haven't read the Chuck Schumer "report" on AI. Why should I? I knew where it was headed by seeing who they invited (and when they tried to invite me as a back fill/window dressing) & the fact that he asked people what their "p(doom)" was shudder. My whole life is not centered around commenting on what all these ridiculous people are doing. For that, I've written a very detailed paper with Emile P. Torres that you can refer to. Find it and other resources at https://dair-institute.org/tescreal/.

timnitGebru,
@timnitGebru@dair-community.social avatar

They keep on wasting our times with all this. We knew this was what it was going to end up in. Did you see who was invited and what their topics were? The senator referred to "god like AI." Him and his likes are 100% captured by the TESCREALists which should tell us what policy they would come up with.

aral,

Those of you in the US please make your voices heard. If you don't think this impacts you, best believe it will get to you one way or another.

"Tell your U.S. senator to oppose H.R.6408 and S.4136, Orwellian bills that would authorize a single official in the Treasury Department to strip any nonprofit organizations of their tax-exempt status without any accountability, justification, or due process. This bill was meant to target pro-Palestinian charities and nonprofit organizations and could be easily weaponized to target any nonprofit organization the President finds objectionable."

The vengeance by these universities is so evil. I heard that MIT suspended more than 24 students, with a bunch of them one week before graduation, so they don't know if they'll graduate. Evil.

Greenseer,
@Greenseer@toot.wales avatar

@timnitGebru If the main concern of these universities was for their reputation as providers of education, they would be reluctant to treat students this way. Instead, they are behaving with all the hubris and complacency of institutions that are gatekeepers for privilege
