This is a remarkable graph.

You might have heard that "EV sales are slumping", "people are starting to avoid EVs", etc.

That's not what's happening.

What's happening is "Tesla is cratering so hard that it's skewing the aggregate market data."

tony,
@tony@hoyle.me.uk avatar

@mhoye GM are doing a worse.. but yes on average the market is healthy.

Absolute numbers aren't much use when Tesla sells 6 times the number of EVs as everyone else.

To be clear: I don't have any sympathy for the Tories...

but the key problem they have (like any government after a decade & a half in power), is when, for instance they say they are going to clamp down on tax avoidance, its not unreasonable to ask, well if you are going to do it now why haven't you done it sometime in the previous fifteen years.....

And, its pretty difficult to campaign on a dreadful recent record, while saying well, now we can rectify this often noted problem.

tony,
@tony@hoyle.me.uk avatar

@ChrisMayLA6 The existing government is supposed to campaign on 'look how great things are, if you vote for the other guy they'll ruin it'.

The tories can't do that, they'd be laughed out of the room.

When you have access to a bidet, do you use it?

tony,
@tony@hoyle.me.uk avatar

@evan We added one during lockdown because they were supposed to be 'better' than using toilet paper (and toilet paper was scarce due to panic buying).

Found that cold water squirted up your arse is horrifically unpleasant, doesn't clean anything, and you need toilet paper anyway to dry off.

10 years ago today!

Google Glass was probably the last time I felt genuinely excited about a piece of consumer tech.

It was obviously a flawed beta, but showed so much promise. The right amount of "this is so crazy it might just work!"

Wherever I went, people wanted to try it on to see for themselves how it worked. They wanted to discuss ethical issues and it's vast potential.

Today, it is barely more than a punchline like Google+.

But, for a brief moment, it was the future.

Popular tech YouTuber publishes a negative but fair review of a new device. Said review says product is an interesting idea, with thoughtful design and clever engineering behind it, but has a lot of shortcomings and teething troubles that—combined with the high price—don't justify buying it for most people as it adds little value over what their phone already does.

Cue the tech industry bleating about it being part of an awful defamatory hit job trying to hurt innovation etc.

tony,
@tony@hoyle.me.uk avatar

@tommorris Is it that stupid 'AI pin badge'?

You don't need to be a tech reviewer to know that's a fail.

Tried dns64 for a day and.. off again. It broke my wife's OBS install. Apparently discord voice doesn't work either.

For it to fail requires that app writers ask for an ipv6 address from DNS then don't know how to handle it when they get it. It takes a rare combination of stupidity to do that.. but here we are, 13 years after it became available..
