So, yeah, Google Podcasts app is being phased out.
I like the way it works. Straightforward, but helps me keep on track with a selection of podcasts that I listen to intermittently.
Any suggestions for a good replacement (Android)?

Updated my image-to-spiral code to a faster variant than the AM/FM waves I often use. This one has multiple spirals, with each having a varying degree of radial displacement based on brightness within the set so at white they all overlay and at black they spread to fill the space between loops of the spiral

In progress grayscale plot of an eye on the bed of a home made pen plotter, the outer parts of the eye are faint but a circle near the centre is much darker where more of the spiral lines have been completed. The eye is made up of a set of spiral lines that merge or spread to encode brightness. The pen plotter parts visible are shiny aluminium and bright orange printed plastic. The lines are being drawn with a Pilot rollerball pen.

I just had a conversation with a guy who said, “Yeah, well I’m a capitalist.”

So I asked, “Okay, how much capital do you have?”

Boy, oh boy, does that question put things in perspective. He became a caricature of an old Warner Brothers cartoon character, trying to compose himself as he fumbled for words, all while he avoided actually answering the question.

So I simply repeated the question. I highly recommend.

My beloved gen 1 Paperwhite died and I've chosen to replace it with a Kobo Libra 2 and start to escape the Amazon ecosystem. I've already dedrmd all my existing purchases.
Ironically I had to buy my Kobo from Amazon, only place with any stock.

When migrating incrementally to a new architecture, and the new and old will run in parallel, in what order should you migrate?

  • reads first
  • writes first
  • by use case (containing reads and writes)

This is a question that always comes up during modernization and I've been enjoying some great discussions about this at PayFit.

There are too many pros and cons to say any option is the best. It depends on what you want to optimize for.*
