Looks like today I finally found a good application for 's: Learning languages!
I've been attempting to learn through duolingo for a while now, without much success. I figured if there's one thing language models should be good at, it's languages. So far the thing has actually been pretty helpful.

Shoutout to Fina Wilke's Warp! Such a nice, self-contained way to just send stuff between devices. Works like a charm for both my 5GB music folder and that Markdown document I wanted to bring with me on my laptop to do some editing while away from my room. Take it for a spin and experience the magic for yourself!

A follow-up to my "Rabbit R1 is an Android app in a box" article:

In their attempted rebuttal, Rabbit made several misrepresentations of my findings - as well as of their own product.

I address their claims in my latest article for Android Authority: https://www.androidauthority.com/rabbit-r1-bespoke-android-3439760/

vancha,
@vancha@fosstodon.org avatar

@MishaalRahman that's interesting, so their application requests more permissions than it actually needs? So what's the argument for requiring a rooted device then, is there no feature that requires root access to your phone in that app?

I didn't expect to fanboy out over a Cards View update that just landed in Beta 126.0b1, but here we are. I LOVE IT! It’s a MAJOR visual improvement, and I’m ridiculously proud of our UX team for landing it.

This also needs to be repeated over and over: our team growth and user growth, all the visual and technical improvements, our increasing sustainability, NONE of it would be possible without the generosity of our donors.

vancha,
@vancha@fosstodon.org avatar

@killyourfm without the generosity, rather than with, I assume? :p great work to everyone involved though, that interface looks good.

@martijn depending on your language of choice, there's some really great API wrappers to make that happen :) what platform(s) would you you target?

vancha,
@vancha@fosstodon.org avatar

@soller will alacritty implement the ligature support since it has so little overhead? Or is that not something they are looking to support. Sounds like they could benefit from this too :)

vancha,
@vancha@fosstodon.org avatar

@soller ah right, that makes sense. Sounds like both are built for different purposes then. Can't wait to see more ^^

I watched the Vampire: Bloodlines 2 extended gameplay trailer; I'm not feel particularly confident that The Chinese Room was the right studio to develop this game. There seems to be glimmers of hope based on the writing so far within the trailer.

However, I'm reserving interest or dismissive disinterest until reviews from reviewers I trust are out in the world! A trailer is not enough to make a full judgement on the matter of a game, it could truly be amazing, if sadly limited.

vancha,
@vancha@fosstodon.org avatar

@WanderingInDigitalWorlds I'm not sure what to make of it. I loved the first game, but personally I really dislike their choice to limit character selection to only a single character model. The atmosphere in the video's looked pretty good to me at least, so I'm looking forward to the release.

vancha,
@vancha@fosstodon.org avatar

@WanderingInDigitalWorlds ah, i had the impression that both the male and female choice, for every clan, used the same model, except the clothing differed. But i probably remember wrong, the reveal they did for that was a while ago. :o
The first game's clan experience and overall atmosphere were probably what drew a lot of people to it, here's to hoping the chinese room can replicate at least part of it

I tried again today. Let's say it's still not for me. Messy, inconsistent UI/UX. Get your paddings and margins straight and we'll try again in another 6 years

vancha,

@martijn relatable, the way it all looks kind of puts me off. Although I think I prefer qt over GTK coding wise, based on the very limited experience I have with both of them

@boilingsteam So for a large portion of 2020 and beyond, debian was actually more popular for gaming than fedora? And so many people use a, in my opinion complicated distro like arch, for gaming? Really unintuitive results!

vancha,
@vancha@fosstodon.org avatar

@boilingsteam I see :o that makes sense, I just was not expecting the scale. I wouldn't have thought the average gamer really cared about operating systems enough to run arch tbh

@omgubuntu @cassidy good :) anything you can get from the store without having to go to websites to hunt for executables seems like a good thing to me. It being proprietary might cause me not to use it, but for those that do it's just that bit more convenient :)
