I wish there were better online tools for planning segmented road trips -- I can come up with "okay what's about a 'reasonable distance' away that can serve as a day marker/overnight" by trying different options on e.g. Google Maps and making tables, but I'd love a tool that tried to surface options like "okay, City A to City B, 30 hours uninterrupted, how many segments do you want to split that into" or that kinda thing

w0ger,

@taber I’ve used furkot to plan trips. It doesn’t have the best UI, but I can say about how far to drive each day, how many miles I get on a tank, and it helps plan our stops etc.

Prime Video has two (2) great grown-up animated series out right now! The Second Best Hospital In The Galaxy has a ton of famous voices (Stephanie Hsu! Natasha Lyonne! Kieran Culkin!) solving outlandish space maladies, and Hazbin Hotel is an imaginatively heretical musical theatre flavored treatment of hell’s reform movement

image/jpeg

w0ger,

@taber my husband @jayarespike really enjoys Hazbin Hotel, so I mentioned your toot to him. We are now watching episode 1 of Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy, he seems to be enjoying it.

Thanks for the recommendation.

no idea what I did to cause my Apple iPhone to believe I wish to be journaling into it but it notifies me daily that it wishes me to take a moment to reflect and I open the application thinking there will be an option to tell it to not do this but all it gives me is “Start Journaling” and that is not what I want to do at all, I want to decline to “Start Journaling,” this has been going on for weeks and I am confounded

w0ger,

@taber go to the Settings app, then scroll down to the Apple Apps section, Journal is the last in this section. From there you can choose a bunch of different options.

We have a #dotnet based framework (a bunch of #nuget packages) that can be used to build desktop executables that control and visualize machine data with a very simple and easy to use #MVVM based API. It is based on #WPF and we want to rewrite/redesign it to make it cross platform.

What UI technology should we base it on?

Customers will have to learn the basics of that chosen technology.

(Boost for reach is appreciated🙏 )
#AvaloniaUI #UnoPlatform #WPF

w0ger,

@bitbonk @sjkilleen since you already have in investment in .NET, it would be fairly easy to move to .NET Multi-platform App UI (MAUI)

I hope they figure this out, I really enjoy Foundation and would hate to see it cancelled early. https://appleinsider.com/articles/24/02/09/foundation-cast-and-crew-sent-home-as-production-delayed?utm_medium=rss

VSCode MAUI development issue: Could not find a valid Xcode app bundle at '/Library/Developer/CommandLineTools'.

Cause: in Xcode > Preferences > Locations > Command Line Tools, that the drop down was blank.

Fix: selecting the drop down, the Command line Tools that were just installed were available, and when I selected that and rebooted VSCode, that the error message went away.

The thing about that people who haven’t been through it often don’t understand is that morale never recovers. The employees who remain will never have the same relationship with that company, bosses or peers.

Watching people you respect pack their stuff and crying on the phone with their spouses is something that never goes away. When I survived a layoff in my 20s I became a “do exactly what the ticket says” person. I stopped suggesting ideas, providing feedback, believing anything a manager told me.

If you are a company considering layoffs, especially a profitable company, you should approach it as “this department will have 100% turnover”. The second I got another job offer I left that company and six months later nobody who had been there at the time of layoffs remained.

I’ve seen that pattern play out multiple times.

w0ger,

@matdevdug the first time I went through a I really struggled with “what did I do wrong?” It took me a long time to recover from that.

My first time as a manager having to lay people off was one of the toughest days of my 35 yr career. A year after that there was 100% turnover in that team, including me.

My current place has had a round of layoffs. We learned to manage employee growth in a way that we haven’t had to do it again. We’re now profitable and have an amazing team.

Every day for the past year or so I get an email from from adctr@microsoft.com. It is sent to my Microsoft Outlook address to reminds me that once, long ago, I imported a ad campaign into a Microsoft Ads campaign.
I can't turn it off. There's absolutely no way to stop it.
Even if I try to block the message in Microsoft , it doesn't work. The message comes, every single day. The same message. It has zero value to me, and I don't want to receive it.

So Microsoft will block emails from domains like , but it chooses NOT to block its own emails, on it own domains, providing no contact or opt out option, and even goes so far to prevent their emails from being blocked by me within Microsoft's own apps.

Great customer service there, Microsoft. I guess I will be seeing this email until I die or move to another email provider. Which ever comes first.

w0ger,

@darren @shanselman any chance of help here? See original post.

The "New Outlook" demands that when adding your account, you also give Microsoft a copy of all your Gmail email, contacts, and calendar data.

The "Learn More" link confirms:

"Syncing your account to the Microsoft Cloud means that a copy of your email, calendar, and contacts will be synchronized between your email provider and Microsoft data centers."

WOW.

Good time to switch to @thunderbird, folks!

w0ger,

@killyourfm @thunderbird given the choice between Microsoft and Google, I would choose Microsoft to use the data of my email, contacts, and calendar data less than Google.
