🤡 At Microsoft, years of security debt come crashing down
「 For many critics of Microsoft, the events of the past nine months are the logical conclusion of a company that has ridden the wave of market dominance for decades and ignored years of warnings that its product security and practices failed to meet the most basic standards.
“In a healthy marketplace, these would be fireable offenses,” 」
Forced to use #Outlook in your office environment? Ever looked in C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp\Outlook Logging ?
Just found over 10,000 files in there, consisting of almost 9 GB of junk logs. My #Windows 10 identifies these as "Windows Performance Analyzer Trace Files." I deleted all files older than a month, leaving 750Mb (just in case), but cleared 10GB for use.
I don't think these are identified by Tools|General|Disk Cleanup as temporary files for deletion.
some users in Europe who download the new Outlook for Windows app, will see a modal (pop-up) that displays a user agreement, which mentions that Microsoft shares your data with 772 third-parties. Yes, you read that right, 772.
@Tutanota I would use #Outlook only in a business context. Then it's corporate data, and the company can decide to share it with #Microsoft or not. Having 813 "partners" which use your private data while you use Outlook for your private emails, sounds like a #privacy nightmare.
Why one of (Microsoft's) security question for account recover,
is one or more old passwords??
If I changed my password, I want there to be no trace of it.
It could have been leaked, guessed, I told it to someone I don't trust.
It doesn't make much sense of them to keep the old passwords.
“We value your privacy” but we’ll sell your data to 807 partners….
Luckily I don’t use my Outlook email anymore, I only have a couple old emails there. I definitely need to look at setting up the forwarding with @protonmail
Here are the survey result for which email client people are using. There were 511 participants.
Vivaldi : 11%
Thunderbird : 41%
Other : 24%
Webmail only : 24%
Good to see so many having switched to @Vivaldi. It is still early days. Also great to see that so many see the importance of using a mail client instead of Webmail only.
