Learning

Because i set my pc to be only without X. . . i felt need to have strong alternative to word processor.

Now i think environment can be really useful. Not having access to libreoffice forces me to find decent replacement for everyday life doc writing.

Ofc. i could go easy way and install word processor on old laptop ... but that means no real gain... without need, or any other motivation it's hard to learn anything.

less is more.

apropos of several walled garden dramas today, I am thinking about how one does not try to break into an escape room

withoutclass,
@withoutclass@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@charles_perkins now we need a short story about an aspiring Jigsaw who breaks into an escape room as their origin story.

Horrible air to breathe today. (Only took a short stroll with a mask on.)

Flattering hazy light for bunnies and older buildings apparently, though .

1910's high school building in Chicago. Neo classical column front, framed by a tree in the front and one on the right. The main building shows up in the background..

@maureenk yea it's nasty out there. Glad I have an air pollution mask I bought years ago. I love the bunny pic

@maureenk I've got a mask from R-Pur https://us.r-pur.com/

CaroltheCrone, to chicago
@CaroltheCrone@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

The air quality in is currently the worst in the world.

Yet outside, everyone is out without masks. Little kids, old people, everyone.

Why?

I'll tell you. Because no "likes" masks. No one is telling people to protect themselves.No one wants be different.

Yet everyday in Beijing and in Japan, people wear masks all the time.

We're stubborn and ignorant.

withoutclass,
@withoutclass@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@CaroltheCrone attributing intent to people when you don't know is unwise. Perhaps they forgot their mask at home. Maybe they ran out.

mgorny, to random

We surrounded ourselves with walls and fences. Put locks on our doors and bars on our windows. Trained dogs to bark at strangers. Installed security cameras and motion sensors. Put armed guards at the exterior.

Why does the peak of our resemble prison so much?

withoutclass,
@withoutclass@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@mgorny most of the media we consume is fear mongering so it's little surprise that people are afraid of everything. We live in the safest time ever to be a human, but everyone is afraid.

I would love it if y'all would share with me the kindest media you know of. TV shows would be perfect, but I'll also take books/movies/podcasts/etc, anything as long as it's accessible to a blind person.

I'm not sure how to be more specific about what I'm after, just...narratives where the driving force is kindness. People striving to be good to each other, to better the world, that sort of thing. Stories with big hearts. Any genre.

Boosts appreciated.

I'm gonna try to clear up a few things

Meta is not gonna buy Mastodon or any server, this is based on absolutely nothing and untrue.

Yes, some of us indeed got contacted by Meta/Insta because they are working on a new social platform (this was in the news) and they are looking into joining the Fediverse (Mark Zuckerberg also told this in the recent podcast)

SO.

This contact was about a "heads-up" for a potential big platform to join the network and not for a "take over".

I love nature but I have bad allergies.

I love mountains but I have acrophobia.

I am attracted to ships but I can't swim.

I love sweets but I have diabetes.

I need people but I am an introvert.

I hate capitalism but I need money to survive.

I hate computers but I can't figure out any other way to live.

Had a deep discussion about identity last night. Many of us are trapped in the idea that our identity is our job title, salary, and where we live. A cashier and a doctor have identities that are set in stone.

I believe we are much more than that, and that those things only make up a portion of who we are.

What do you think? Are we merely the sum of what we do for a living and where we live? Or is our identity a reflection of our personality, values, and qualities that aren't so visible?

withoutclass,
@withoutclass@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@dancinyogi identity doesn't exist at all, it's just a story we tell to ourselves and others.
