Good news — the EPA updated the air quality index on May 6th.

Good news: AQI now includes a wider range of conditions that make people sick.

Complicated news: since AQI is based on health impacts rather than an absolute measure of pollutants, anyone basing research or analysis on AQI should expect the definition of a one unit difference in AQI to change.

Time to update my own monitoring/early warning system

So is the issue that NTFS is a bad filesystem, or that Microsoft refuses to let it be a good filesystem on non-windows platforms?

I think it's the former (incompetence) rather than the latter (malice) but ... am I right?

@ajroach42 I believe a good way to look at it is that NTFS was built with design goals that make it incompatible with it becoming a good filesystem.

Today, in our sinister start of Dwarf Fortress, the search for more iron ore continues. We found it, but it's locked away in a light aquifer! But no worries, we just need to provide some adequate drainage and we should be fine. What's the worst that could happen?

A friend cam over yesterday to talk. At 65 he's decided to go to therapy to deal with issues that have gone unresolved in his life.

We sat and I listened for hours about his hopes and dreams and how the pursuit of them through out his life, has left him feeling dissatisfied and empty.

I praised him for his willingness to understand himself more and his desire to be at peace in the time he has left.

It's never to late to make changes. It's never to late to find peace.

@Mrfunkedude I started the therapy journey a few years back in my forties. It's been really helpful.

Right now I'm staring down the barrel of turning fifty within a couple of years. That feeling of "Have I wasted my life?" is real. As time becomes more and more precious with each passing year, it's important to realize that the only moment we truly "own" is the present one. Plan for the future, yes. Reflect on the past, absolutely. But don't turn those activities into obsessions.

@Mrfunkedude It's really helpful to remember this, especially for those evenings when I just want to veg out and watch a dumb movie or play some Minecraft. In the long term, no one's keeping score on how well I lived my life. The world keeps on turning and the most important thing for me is to just enjoy any moment I find myself in. Not everything has to be a self fulfillment journey.

That's what I keep telling myself of course. Some days I'm better at convincing me than others. 😅

@KingShawn @mentallyalex Sorry, I didn't mean to minimize his death or the cause of it. I was trying to point out that the act of passing take bills to homeless people isn't as harmless as the person I was directly replying to was trying to imply when he was saying that the police "wouldn't arrest" them for trying to spend the bills. The police officer did murder George Floyd after the fake 20 incident. The same could happen to others for the same thing.

Our embark on sinister soil has had a bit of a slow start, so I hope we have enough items for our trading caravan to supply us with food and other assorted items for the next year.

We are constantly getting covered in malodorous goo and it's making our dwarves cranky. But outside of that it's not too bad, as long as our goblin neighbors don't invite themselves to our fort too soon. We need to set up cage traps first. 😁

Casual non-techy coworkers yesterday were talking about using excel reports to analyze data & turns out two of the people use to know how to do something in excel.

So, before this stuff, if you were like, "how do I do X in Excel" in google, you'd get a bunch of hits and then have to wade through the results to see which link was actually what you were looking for, then test out if their solution works.
