hactar42, in R.E.M. - What's the Frequency, Kenneth [1994]

Back when this song was new and Pizza Hut had restaurants one of the employees must have been obsessed with R.E.M. because we hear this song and other R.E.M. hits like 2-3 times each while eating. It was the only time my dad actually give me money for the jukebox.

radicalautonomy, in R.E.M. - What's the Frequency, Kenneth [1994]

When playing Charades and putting media titles into the other teams hat, this song is the absolute best. Put yourself through it…how the fuck are you supposed to act this shit out?

The background to this song is very interesting…

The song’s title refers to an incident in New York City in 1986 in which two then-unknown assailants attacked journalist Dan Rather while repeating “Kenneth, what is the frequency?”

@DandomRude@lemmy.world avatar

Exactly, that’s how the title came about.

I always wanted to set up a random music trivia community for stuff like that. Unfortunately, I never got around to it. Maybe one day.

OlinOfTheHillPeople,

That’s a really good idea!

TheAlbatross, in Nightcrawlers - Push The Feeling On (1992)

What a stellar track, great post

Varyk, in The Connells - '74 - '75 [1993]

That’s very nice, thanks. Nice sound, nice video

One of my favorite rock bands. Funny, quirky and all round awesome. So many great songs to get you pumped up and in a great mood.

Varyk, in Marcy Playground - Sex and Candy [1997]

Hell yes. Just saw them live a few months ago. If anyone is interested, they’re going on tour again soon, and I highly recommend seeing them.

DandomRude,
@DandomRude@lemmy.world avatar

Wonderful! I wasn’t aware that they were still around.

Varyk,

Just started playing together again last year, and liked it so much they’re pulling off a tour this year too.

DandomRude,

I hope it stays that way and they do a European tour the following year. I’d be there.

I remember a Playstation demo disc that came with this one, good times.

eestileib, in Blues Traveler - Hook [1995]

Still a banger.

If I had my little way, I’d eat peaches every day.

CptInsane0, in The Presidents of the United States of America - Peaches (1996)

Why is everyone calling them PUSA? I’ve always known them as “POTUSA.”

thefartographer,

I share your confusion

It always amazes me that Hank Hill knows the words to this song, which implies that he likes the band and I can only imagine he first gave them a listen simply because of their name.

CptInsane0,

He never heard it before and just correctly guessed the lyrics.

JoseJX, in The Presidents of the United States of America - Peaches (1996)

My son is really into PUSA mostly because we brought him up on Caspar Babypants (check it out if you have kids, Stompy the Bear rocks). He loves Peaches, Dune Buggy, Mach 5, Volcano and 5500 Miles. He has great taste for a 5 year old, obviously.

I just went on a PUSA binge a couple weeks ago. I still think Mach 5 is my favorite of their songs.

Bonesince1997, (edited )

I picked up their anniversary CD a while back. They have a couple alternate versions of Naked and Famous on there. One’s a demo. There’s something about at least that one I really like. Maybe it’s the rawness of it; they even swear!
