Today I’m in the process of resetting my project management system for quarter 3 (Q3). I’ve had people tell me they’d rather pull their own teeth out than do a project management at home. 🤷🏼 This process for me is very satisfying—color coded—and most of all, it works for me. Do what works for you!

morothar,

@BZBrainz @Adhdinos @actuallyautistic
I have a over-coomplicated todo-system with multiple levels of backlog for private and work "projects" (which I usually call "quests"). I moved from Hansoft (an older commercial software which is free for tiny teams, and as it's just me, that works) to Notion, but I might one day write my own software which will suit my AuDHD brain better.

In any case, having a place where I can put tasks I don't have to try to remember myself reduces a lot of stress!

@morothar @Adhdinos @actuallyautistic I may now forever call them quests and side-quests. I love-love-love that! ♥️

I hear a lot about Notion and Trello. Unless it’s gamified, apps are often forgotten—out of site and existence in my mind.

chrysalis,

@BZBrainz @Adhdinos @actuallyautistic I love this! I recently started a similar color coded project tracking system for myself using index cards and a cork board. It made such a huge difference (I used to use an excel sheet that I rarely opened). I swear that my brain felt lighter after making it!

@chrysalis @Adhdinos @actuallyautistic Yes! It does feel lighter. When my brain is relieved of the burden of trying to remember ALL THE THINGS, I have room to breathe and be creative. It does not solve executive dysfunction but it helps so much. I used to use electronic systems, but eventually object permanence would get the better of me. If you’re willing to share in the future or direct me to a similar example of your system, I’d love to see it.

chrysalis,

@BZBrainz @Adhdinos @actuallyautistic Absolutely! I’ve included a picture of my cork board here. For my grad school thesis I have big categories (research, writing, and publishing / defense prep), and then smaller subcategories arranged via stacked notecards. Then I have a “weekly tasks” notecard pinned on the right. It isn’t there now because I usually tote it around with me as I work so I don’t forget what I’m doing lol.

@chrysalis @Adhdinos @actuallyautistic I am fascinated by this and its similarities to how my goals are broken into projects which are then broken into tasks. I’m still working on finding the right mix—I’m close. Do you keep the stack of cards at your desk? Was it inspired by a Kanban board? No worries if you don’t want to answer or can’t answer til later—life and thesis are of utmost importance.

chrysalis,

@BZBrainz @Adhdinos @actuallyautistic Thanks for the questions, I’m happy to share especially if it helps you with your own system! Tbh I had to look up what a Kansan board was 😅. I did know I wanted to track both what I’ve already accomplished and what still needed to be done. (I tried doing the second without the first and that was not very motivating for me).

chrysalis,

@BZBrainz @Adhdinos @actuallyautistic The only visual tool I knew of that did that was a fundraiser goal board. In high school we had one on a whiteboard with a thermometer that filled as funds accrued. I tried to do it like that, realized it all didn’t fit, then split them into the big categories so they did fit on my board. I can just make three thermometers! Then one thing led to another and it didn’t end up looking like a thermometer at all 😂

chrysalis,

@BZBrainz @Adhdinos @actuallyautistic The post-its I added because I have trouble sorting finished and unfinished tasks, even when crossed out. Lots of visual noise!

The board hangs above my desk and I keep a stack of empty cards and post-its next to me. The notecard stacks I mentioned before are pinned to the board itself. When I’m deciding what to put on my weekly to-do list I take the pinned stacks down and look through them to choose tasks.
