@erin Then that map is from an earlier period, as Hwy16 west of Edmonton was twinned in the 1970s I'm pretty sure...I was still a kid then, so I'll see if my Dad can recall that, as we used to travel it all the time...
@satchmo35@erin Hwy 16 wasn't twinned past Entwhistle until the 90s I think. My friend said they got to Seba Beach in ‘81 when he lived there. I remember us driving to Jasper all through my teens and most of it being the two lane “Death Highway”
@Chigaze@erin oh heck no...late 1970s at latest...I drove that highway many times in the 1980s and it was twinned then for sure...my parents are telling me early-mid 70s. Need to do some digging...
@satchmo35@erin My parents agree with you. They figure they started pushing past Entwhistle early 80's at the latest. Given printing schedules back in the old days it's not surprising a map would be a few years out of date by the time it was published.
@satchmo35@erin Another article I've found from May 1988 talks about twinning projects east of Hinton and east of Edson (and west of Obed) so it looks like those areas were twinned in 1988.
This is based purely on the title and image look and feel, this FEELS like the ones I'm seeing online from the 80s. But the 1979, 1981, 1982 and 1984 ones that I found have "Road" and "Atlas" on separate lines, stacked. It's only the newer ones (starting in the 90s) that seem to use them on a single line, but the style then is very different.
@erin@jasonstcyr@chad I should note that my friend was thinking early 80s, I ruled that out by reading your responses to people in the thread and finally picked 1987 because it was in range and my grad year so it sticks out in my head. :)
