The original Google Maps. Guess the year this baby was published..

relevantworm,

@erin I was going to guess 1975. What does the Winnipeg area look like?

Trying to watch the semi finals of the Grand Slam of but wow, this broadcast is hard to follow. Four sheets going at once but god forbid we just pick one and stay with it. No, we have to watch all of them so every time an end finishes we can jump to commercials.

jace, to random

This may be an unpopular opinion.

But I think today, I've resigned myself to a future win for the Conservatives federally.

The recent decisions by Trudeau and the Liberals have been completely self-destructive, and the NDP are way too disorganized to put up any fight.

A premier Danielle Smith with Prime Minister Poiliviere? The definition of absolute hell, but one that looks completely possible with the inept and disastrous "progressive" parties we have right now.

relevantworm,

@jace I've spent this last year focusing my attention much less at the federal and provincial level and much more on the municipal level.

Yes, higher levels of government create policies that affect us all and I vote for them accordingly, but city governments are far more accessible and changes made where you live can have a much greater impact on your outlook.

"People" who stop in the middle of the road to road rage should be suspended from driving

Like forever

GL walking :nkoWave:

relevantworm,

@stux It is amazing how getting behind the wheel makes you feel invincible.
It is also amazing how that feeling of invincibility is also stressful as hell. I feel so much more relaxed on my bike ride to work every morning even if my chances of getting squished are much higher.

So my Meraki license expires in a few month, and I need an replacement.

What is the recommended Wifi solution with mesh functionality?

Unifi is sadly not an option, they force me to buy an cloud-key and shit.

relevantworm,

@feld @selea You don't need a cloud key but you do have to set up a device to run the controller daemon, even if just to do the initial configuration.

TechConnectify, to random

Y'know how I like nuance and am skeptical of simple narratives?

Well, I have a bugbear regarding the discussion on pedestrian fatalities in the US.

To start this thread, I'd like to think I have an unbiased perspective here. I don't drive a very large vehicle, I loathe the arms race in vehicle size, and I welcome all efforts to reduce car-dependence and make our streets safer for all.

But... every discussion I listen to on this topic is real handwavey on the impacts of distracted driving.

relevantworm,

@TechConnectify @ezekiel I would argue that designing a street to be safe would at the same time make distracted driving if not impossible then at least a non-issue.

Places where you would expect people to be on foot need to be made in a way where the expectations isn't for cars to be able to use it as a thoroughfare. If there are to be lanes for cars, they should be narrow and restricted enough where you literally couldn't use an electronic device without running your car into a bollard.

Had to get creative with this one.

@chad @geerlingguy This is a junkyard art depiction of what I looked like trying to figure out ansible for the first time.

Another warning for Ontario this time in & North (aka downtown?)

relevantworm,

@erin Crazy day for tornadoes in Canada. We just had a tornado warning in my area, but no word yet if there were any funnel clouds or anything.

relevantworm,

@gamingonlinux I'll have to give this another shot. The last time I used it to disable the lighting on my video card it wasn't persisting through reboots. Though I'm not sure if that was a bug or if I had it configured wrong.

Stock Alert (CA): RPi 4 Model B - 8GB RAM is In Stock at Pishop 100 units in stock. https://rpilocator.com?instock

relevantworm,

@rpilocator Who is buying Pis for over $100??? You could get a cheap refurbished Tiny/Mini/Micro for that price that offer way better performance for a modest difference in physical size.

relevantworm,

@rpilocator I retract my statement.

There is one simple thing I cannot stand in so many TV shows and movies :blobcatgiggle:

When the actor is "calling" but you see the homescreen or something else that indicates they are not calling :flan_laugh:

Why not just make an actual phone call or otherwise put a screenshot on from a phonecall (to not interfear with other electronics perhaps)

C'mon hollywoooood it's not thaaaat hard right 😇

relevantworm,

@stux Any smart phone is going to turn the screen off when you hold it to your ear anyway, so you could just use a blank dummy prop phone and it would be more convincing than having it show the homescreen or even a call screen.

This CN Tower is a lot bigger than the CN Tower back home…

Me: I want to see the CN Tower!
Mom: We have the CN Tower at home.

My brain is going to explode from having to make decisions lol. Haaalp. How does one make choices from the thousands of palettes, surfaces, finishes etc available?! I'm way too indecisive for this lol aaagh. 🫨

relevantworm,

@jace I think you're supposed to buy all the samples and use them together???

I’ll have to wait for the Blu-ray to finish the series 😟

I've given up trying to figure out what slows down video renders.

Today, Media Encoder is struggling most with... still .pngs.

Blasting through 4K h.264 footage no problem, about twice real-time in fact, but a motionless graph? Yeah that's gonna go at about 5 FPS today.

relevantworm,

@TechConnectify Really good responses here. But have you tried simply cranking the reel faster?

relevantworm, to random

@jerry
Uhhh, am I supposed to be seeing this on Fedia?

relevantworm,

@jerry
This is on Android. I installed the web page to my home screen via Firefox and then I noticed a pane along the bottom when I launched it.

Today's -40C #calgary weather called for some comfort desserts. Warm, chewy, chocolatey brownie #cookies.

relevantworm,

@jace just wanted to say that exactly a year later I'm making this recipe again today 😉
