Top of the fifth, scoreless game between the #Cubs and #Padres, Musgrove cruising for SD. I go upstairs a few minutes, and when I come back, it’s 5-0, Chicago.
The Cubs could've signed Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery for a COMBINED $112 million over two years. What a missed opportunity. Imagine this rotation with Justin Steele, Shota Imanaga, Snell, Montgomery, Hendricks/Tallion/Wicks. That's a division winner.
On top of that, the contracts wouldn't block any big time prospects. The Cubs are the only big market team in the NL Central. They need to flex those muscles instead of worrying about the luxury tax.
Baseball is my favorite sport and I'm jacked that another season is upon us. I'm disappointed in the Cubs offseason and think they might regret their passive approach in September. However, I'll stay optimistic and hope for the best.
I've got tickets to an April game at Wrigley and a Cubs-Royals game at KC in July.
I think Seiya Suzuki is going to be a star this year.
Absolutely shocked at the Cubs hiring Craig Counsell. I did not see that coming as I didn't think he'd want to come to Chicago, and I didn't think Hoyer would get rid of Counsell.
This is a plus for the Cubs. Ross was below average and Counsell is one of the best.
@Ashley as a Cubs fan I am getting a nostalgic feeling seeing players wearing royal blue with red highlights jumping around...and Aroldis Chapman being one of them.
Bryce Harper with 2 homeruns tonight as the Phillies push Atlanta to the brink.
The Cubs not signing Harper after 2018 still makes me mad and is the biggest blunder by this Cubs FO. Would have completely changed the last 5 seasons.
To fix this, they need to trade and extend Juan Soto.
@DocTellMeMore I respectfully repeat that you and I have no idea what Harper really wanted to do. I also respectfully point out you are also assuming the Cubs have things the Padres want in trade and that Soto would be interested in playing in Chicago long-term.
The Cubs are going to finish 1 or 2 games out of the playoffs, depending on the results of the meaningless last day. While blame goes to all parties, this season highlighted the deficiencies of David Ross:
He rode the bullpen to death as he has a small circle of trust. I remember games in July/August when the Cubs were up 4 late and he still went with his 3 guys instead of developing other options.
@DocTellMeMore To finish up my thoughts, you need your best players to be your best players. Bellinger and Swanson came up really short in the last two weeks. The manager cannot do anything about that.
When I look at the Jays, they almost missed because their best players were not their best players.
@ai6yr From chicken experience, we were blithely unbothered by predators—until we weren’t. I don’t know if bears are anything like deer, which are way harder to fence out from the orchard if they are already used to pulling down branches for snacks than keeping them out in the first place.
Cubs get another nice win against the Reds. One night after winning 20-9, the Cubbies win 16-6. The 36 runs are the most for the Cubs in a 2 game span since 1900.
