Latest stats on two largest #Kbin Servers - if I'm reading this correctly.... UPDATED

So, assuming I'm reading this data on this page correctly:

Fedia.io has gone from zero to just under 11,000 users:
https://fedia.io/stats

And Kbin.social is now at around 120,000 users:
https://kbin.social/stats

If so, then this is the more quick source of latest numbers than the updates to , etc.

UPDATE: I don't THINK i was reading those fully correct. I think those numbers include remote follows of each server from the fediverse, not being only local users.

This is a great number too, but not the number of local new users if that is right. (Someone please confirm)...

Local users may still be best tracked on .

The stats page is actually kinda confusing, the user count there is everyone the server knows about, including other instances. As more people between instances interact across instances, the numbers should get closer to being equal.

To see just a single instance, you should check the instance nodeinfo api located here: https://kbin.social/nodeinfo/2.0 - shows about 20K users for kbin.social and 1.7K for fedia.io

Either way, lemmy+kbin combined should be about 120K, fedidb.org shows ~100K for lemmy and 6K for kbin, though the kbin total must be undercounting if kbin.social shows 20K, which makes the 120K total make sense.

How many does lemmy.ml has?. I'm pretty sure once we get the federation working again we will flood all the other instances with posts.

According to FediDB lemmy has 100k users across all instances, and lemmy.ml has 36k users. It also says that across all instances, kbin only has 6k users.

edit: I wonder if kbin.social/stats it counting federated content as well? Such a large disparity between the two sources...

I imagine that because kbin.social isn't able at the moment to communicate to the outside that number is outdated.
According to the internal count we are at 123661 users.

Also I think the reason why /kbin has so many users is because it hasn't closed signups and it doesn't require an application to signup.

I think you're right. fediverse.party shows the surge, then decrease due to federation being turned off.

ANuStart,

Hol up what do you mean when we get federation working? It doesn't work?

We are basically being flooded by thousands of users, so to keep /kbin online the admin enabled cloudflare DDoS protection, which basically isolates us from the rest of the fediverse. This is however a temporary measure, once things calm down a little it should be working again soon.

Can you provide some documentation I could read that explains how all of that works? I'm curious and haven't found anything that I feel covers the whole process.

You can have a read here: https://fedi.tips/what-is-mastodon-what-is-the-fediverse/.
That's basically how all of this works.

And regarding CloudFlare's DDoS protection, in simple terms is basically like a wall with a tiny entrance, very few requests can come through that wall and so posts from outside /kbin can't come in easily.

Alphanerd4,

Thank you for this, it was super helpful! I still kinda don't understand it, but I feel closer to understanding it haha

Cloudflare implementation is stopping it working properly; I think it is working, but on a massive delay currently.
Cloudflare is needed due to the high amount of traffic, but is hopefully being disabled soon.

imovedhere,

Does anyone know what the kbin numbers were before the migration? I assume a few thousand?

Kbin is about a month old! It wasn't that long ago that Ernest was here basically posting to himself! The numbers have exploded!

shogoll,

I think I saw it at a few thousand on like, Sunday
