Being interrupted by ads is far more likely to make me start avoiding a product or brand than actually buying their stuff because I start to associate them with being annoyed.

Clearly my reaction is not common enough to make ads unprofitable. It would be nice if it were.

Now that streaming services are re-introducing or forcing ads (like YouTube), I'm cancelling in return.

@veronica Interruptions are bad enough, however I've wondered lately if YouTube is showing ads intended to be annoying so that one is irritated into subscribing for ad-free access.

I'm tolerating ads on one device and see the same crappy ads for the same crappy products, eg a little heater that is supposedly terrifying the energy industry, or a kind of large electric toothbrush that cleans bathroom walls and <gasp> was invented by a compatriot (in every country in which advertised🙄).

I'm going to keep posting and reposting this:

You can watch almost any show on Prime, Netflix, HBO, Disney, and Showtime... pretty much any channel WITHOUT commercials here. They also have a really huge selection of movies that you can look up by genre, actors, director.

This site was created as a huge "fuck you" to the paid sites doing exactly what they're doing.

(Don't know how long it will last tho)

I grew up in a time when there were no commercial TV channels in my country, so no ads. Perhaps that is why my only reaction to them is annoyance. I wasn't raised on that kind of manipulative content.

Not sure if this is still the case or not, but when we did get ad financed TV here, it was still illegal to interrupt programmes. The ad breaks had to be between them, so they were good for bathroom breaks or going to the kitchen. It became enough of a thing that some ads tried to encourage people not to do that, as I recall 😁
