@Chrishallbeck I know of an Englishwoman who solved this handily without having to catch any flies: she treated herself to a Marmite, Worcester cheese, and onion sandwich for lunch.
(Like, not actual flies, but just tell them you're on a high protein diet and there are bugs in there. This would be sufficient to mess the thief up mentally. 😁 )
