Hewwo I'm techy furry on Uwuwatch (and outside of Uwuwatch).
Also a #gamedev (at least in the works).
Look at my Website if you're curious what projects I've worked on or smtg.

I've realised something — I don't actually hate :java: Java™, I just struggle with Spring

Am I just too old-fashioned of an engineer?? Spring seems to be really popular so clearly they must be doing something right, but every time I do anything with it, I end up wanting to quit dev and become a farmer

@Ninji u say that and then look at stuff like AI or Angular

  1. do not assume that URLs will be treated the same cross user-agents.

  2. do not assume that IPv4-mapped IPv6-addresses can be written in octal.

Another day. Another security report against we could close.

Discord just announced a change to their Terms of Service, which restarts the clock on when you can opt out of binding arbitration. All you gotta do is read the "Opt-out" paragraph of Section 16 & send an email to arbitration-opt-out@discord.com from the email address you use to log in which states something as simple as this:

I am confirming that as of the date of this email, I am choosing to opt out of binding arbitration to settle disputes with Discord.

Boosts pls.

@trishalynn do you by any chance know if this is global or just US Specific? It's a lot of hard to read text sadly to understand ,w,

Anyone got suggestions for fedi instances to swap to that allow post importing and got chill rules?

helenczerski, to climate

I have just discovered that those odd waste/recycling bins that are all over the oldest bits of Bergen, Norway, link to an UNDERGROUND PNEUMATIC WASTE TRANSPORT SYSTEM. The waste collects for a bit and then WHOOSH... it's off to the recycling centre. All underground. No bin lorries (garbage trucks), fewer road vehicles, less noise... amazing. @davidho says that my (considerable) excitement about this is entirely unreasonable. I disagree.

mondanzo,
@mondanzo@uwuwatch.club avatar

@helenczerski my biggest fear is that the chart represents them all going into a single pipe making it seem like the recycling has no effect

welp, I hit a dead end. Don't think peer-to-peer will cut it let alone will I get NAT Hole Punching to work. Meaning I will have to host my own servers which sucks, cuz it needs more resources and in case my system dies this whole feature can die. Sure it's the same with Hole Punching but I would feel better to know one person only has to rehost the hole punching and the overall server architecture works without such a service. which it theoretically does rn, connecting just sucks atm...

mondanzo,
@mondanzo@uwuwatch.club avatar

@krazyjakee I honestly would rather not have a dependency on Steam to allow players to play the game, def. easier than whatever I'm trying but also, just, frustrating to require that dependency. Would make the game immediately not work in browser or mobile. Currently, I am theoretically letting the players host their own server, just gotta figure out a better way of connecting them...

mondanzo, to gamedev
@mondanzo@uwuwatch.club avatar

Looking into p2p connections won't be as much fun as I hoped it would be... I don't even know which options exist... My first try would be to use nat punching but if I'm not mistaken that means I can only transfer data once all the required hosts are connected...
Anyone got any advices on this?

mondanzo,
@mondanzo@uwuwatch.club avatar

@Qazm truth be told, a rendezvous service should be easily set up. The biggest fear of mine is just, that there is no functioning plugin library yet for Godot 4. There is one that's for Godot 3 and says it works for Godot 4 but that's a lie. :(

Some people might be unaware of this, but if you register an online account somewhere, choose a password, and they email you something containing your password, like "welcome, here's your registration details email/pwd", that is a red flag. They should NOT know your password.

mondanzo,
@mondanzo@uwuwatch.club avatar

@djlink only times I do see this if they generate a password for me that I should change then.

a lot of issues I see on initial stages of consoles ports are due to PCs being so much faster that we can get away with it. Doesn't even look like an issue until you dig deeper and the root cause actually makes sense. It's just that desktop PCs will just brute force most stuff.

mondanzo,

@djlink I used to have my Aldi laptop for performance tests until it at one day just didn't start anymore...

Fun poll for gamedev:

On your dev team, which roles are responsible for building and maintaining animation state machine graphs?

(Please boost if you are interested to know about this.)

mondanzo,
@mondanzo@uwuwatch.club avatar

@bitinn uh... uhm... what if, the game doesn't really have any animations at all that need to be state driven?

mondanzo,
@mondanzo@uwuwatch.club avatar

@Sibbo from what I can tell from observing the artists I work with it's mostly a mixture of both, assets that somehow belong together tend to be in a .blend file together, separated by scene collections.

mondanzo,
@mondanzo@uwuwatch.club avatar

@_benui kinda reminds me of childhood me when I was wondering how games work. One idea I came up with (cuz. I had no idea what real time rendering is) was that every image for every possible button combination got r
Pre-rendered and the actual game just showed a picture from it depending which buttons I pressed. That was like 13 years ago and today I know better (and the struggles)

For a really big change, in Perforce I like shelving the files into different CLs to have a history of the progression of the change. If I make a big mess of stuff, I have a save point to roll back to. Like a local git commit.

mondanzo,
@mondanzo@uwuwatch.club avatar
